I don’t think it’s a matter of priority (give to one, take from the other). Just hire the right MBB coach.

Revenue share is a zero sum game. You have to take from one sport to give to another bc Rev share is a fixed number.

In 2025, the LSU mens basketball team lost $ while the Baseball team had a surplus of revenue. Google it yourself, but that says to me that LSU basketball is the minor sport on LSU's campus.

It’s a good question. I believe in the OM case they took more money away from WBB to contribute to MBB if I remember correctly, but not sure about other schools

I know stuff came out last season that LSU was in the bottom quarter of the SEC in basketball spending, maybe even the bottom two. I can't recall if that was NIL spending or institutional spending.

Well baseball seems to be holding their own just fine with what they have.

Again history lesson during the 78-79 season Durand Macklin the best player on the team and a hell of alot better player than Dedan or Reed and probably better than both combined broke his foot in the 2nd game of the year and missed the entire season. Surprisingly enough Dale Brown didnt throw in the towel but won the SEC regular season title and went to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament...
Look it up!

The risk you take by giving LSU baseball less revenue share than other programs is losing Jay Johnson to one of those programs.

I’m not saying he would leave LSU, but if it puts him at a competitive disadvantage…well you decide what to make of that

I don’t know, but I think Verge is going to have to make a decision whether to prioritize baseball or MBB. That’s a tough decision.

Doubtful.

Baseball, women's basketball as long as Mulkey is there and gymnastics have very strong fanbases and would make Verges life a living hell if he screwed them over.

Men's basketball is effectively dead at the moment, and it will take a major donor(s) to step in and help cover most expenses for a new coach and to supplement NIL. If he tries to go after other programs for money there will be very strong backlash.

I agree. But LSU is already allocating a smaller percentage of rev share to baseball (that is going to MBB) than Ole Miss. that’s a problem

Basketball sucks again this year & will still make more money than baseball…
It only makes more money due to its allocation of SEC media rights, which baseball doesn’t receive, and it’s NCAA tournament distribution, which is much larger than the baseball tournament distribution. Baseball is much higher in “generated” revenue such as ticket sales, donations, parking, concessions, etc.

It does underscore how much LSU is missing the boat with basketball though. It generates very little except what it receives simply by existing.

The question is where the real support for MBB with donors is etc.?

Everyone knows LSU is a baseball school since Skip but look at how gymnastics built up over the years and became what they are. It didn't happen overnight and took a ton of work. They are now at the top of the sport and have an amazing facility, tons of fans and donor who will help.

https://www.lsugym.com/gymnastics-training-facility/

WBB fans would burn down Verge's office if she called them out. They pack the PMac and have donors. Hell, they have a million $ dressing room.

Nobody seems to care enough to actually DO anything or give money to MBB. Most are just apathetic.

It is very strange Shaq or somebody can't seem to get some donors on board to save the program from its current state.

Verge is probably the best and only shot.

But is that being made up by donors/NIL deals? It is hard to know since LSU is kind of unique with the love of the baseball program.

I would hope it is, and if it isn't it needs to be fixed.

The bigger mistake was Tate and Woody refusing to fire McMahon before Wade was still at McNeese (and a potential candidate).

Honestly that alone was a fireable offense.
