So how much money will LSU lose for games like ULM?

MANY people are given tickets to that game for free because season ticket holders do not want to go. Many people only go to that game because they were given free tickets.

How many people want to pay 20-40 to park for a game that is barely worth attending to begin with?

You might want to think about staying home and watching the games on TV.

edit: If you only purchase 1 ticket.

Not many at all.. Its going to be ugly next year for western kentucky!

I certainly am not tailgating for that game. Cost me $90 just for a car and trailer.

$92,600 / 1 guy making $10 an hour working an 8 hour day = 1,157 workers

And let's just take out $1,500 in consumables (garbage bags and gas), still comes out to 1,138 workers.

Ain't no way in hell they have that many people on campus working cleanup after a game at any one time.

yeah because all of that revenue should be spent to just clean up....

Almost all tailgate groups have people who come to campus and tailgate and watch the game at the tailgate or go to a nearby bar. They arent going to pay $20 to park just to have the right to tailgate for a few hrs.

My tailgate group will be cut in half as a result. These arent free loaders either, they are LSU alums but many just want to be a part of the gameday atmosphere and tailgate and see friends. They will stay at home now.

Some people will stay home but others will find a way. Carpool together etc. 4 ppl one vehicle is $5 each......and those ppl that just show up at tailgates don't always provide for the food at the tailgate but do eat it.

They donate though towards the food and beverages.

Instead of getting avg 6 kegs per game, I'll probably get 3 kegs per game and the quantity of food will be 1/2 as well. Thats $600 less for the baton rouge economy per game.

This act doesn't come close to the definition of price gouging.

The term price gouging refers to the phenomenon of sharply rising prices of items in (often temporary) high demand.

Those came from a quick google search. I'm not referring to state law in terms of natural disasters. I think LSU's lack of competition and high demand for tailgating are specifically driving this decision.

Maybe price gouging doesn't exactly fit this scenario, but it's close enough that it gets my point across.

First, it requires a temporary high demand. That isn't the case here. The demand for parking at LSU games has been fairly consistent.

Second, there is competition. All those business and parking lots surrounding campus can charge for parking if they'd like.

No, price gouging doesn't fit at all and its foolish to even suggest it. LSU is simply charging for a demand that's been around for years. Like other posters have said, the unexpected thing is that its taken this long.

i am enjoying how people that already have spots or don't attend/rarely attend LSU football games are so quick to have an opinion on this topic

The definition I quoted states "often" temporary. So, that leaves room for permanent or consistent demands to fit the definition.

They're in the business of retail, restaurants, etc., not parking cars and they probably even have rules about parking your car in their lot unless you're a customer. LSU receives zero competition from them for tailgating. This example is like saying a gas station raising gas prices by double the amount is ok because the grocery store next door could sell gas if they wanted to.

LSU is simply extremely overcharging for a demand that's been around for years.

I just get aggravated when grown men whine like 10 year old girls about something that is not uncommon.

Tell me where else it's common to charge people $40 to park on a public street.

There is no legal definition of price gouging that doesn't incorporate some "temporary" temporal element. That's the whole idea behind price gouging. There is a disturbance in the demand side of the equation brought on by an uncontrollable and unknowable variable causing demand to spike. In turn, supplier dramatically increase the price in order to take advantage of the spike.

LSU's parking situation in no way resembles anything like this.

I guess I just imagine all those cars that are parked in the field in front of Walk-ons and up and down Nicholson.

Only if the grocery store had gas pumps.

Alabama, Florida, any other number of major CFB programs.

Hell, Texas charges $15 for parking and it's a hell of a lot further from the stadium. Plus, the charge $15 for handicapped parking. Plus, there is no free parking on anywhere on Texas' campus.

I don't doubt it will affect some tailgates but like it or not (which by the way I don't) it was inevitable.

I don't have season tix for BB and frankely haven't paid close attention to the BB ticket prices but from some of the stuff I have heard LSU lost some season ticket holders because they increased the prices.....very bad timing to have a price increse when a sport is not in high demand. LSU is taking advantage of how well the FB program is by instituting all the fees they have in the last 10 years and it won't change....unless we go back to sucking like in the 90's
