Like those of us that live on the gulfcoast making arrangements for lodging further inland, stocking up on water, food, gas, ammo, alcohol. Maybe getting in a car a little early and heading to Granny's house in Shreveport even. BUT, to shut half the state down and order an evacuation at this point is not proper precautions. It's panic.

Lodging arrangements, done. Water, food, gas, ammo, alcohol, done, done, done, done, done. Preparedness doesn't equate to panic. There is no need in any possible way to cancel games or evacuate cities at this point. Have a plan in place and execute it when the times comes, not days beforehand.

Interesting. I would have imagined maybe cancelling Tuesday tomorrow, but not Friday.

Someone explain to me why a SATURDAY game needs to be moved when the hurricane wouldn't even hit until TUESDAY at the earliest?

Probably to allow out-of-town students to get a jump on traffic headed home ahead of the rush.

This is the Post-Katrina effect. Contraflow will supposedly occur on I-10 Friday and Saturday messing up BR traffic. Noone would be able to get to the game because of the congestion in BR. They also may be planning on cancelling classes Friday for students to get out of dodge.

Not a reason for the cancellation but I'm sure a lot of Apps are planning on flying into NO. What's their plans?

So now their students and faculty can evacuate a day earlier. They can leave tonight and spend Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday night in a hotel and then see where the storm hits. I guess that makes sense

Optimistically, we can look at the projections and see tropical storm winds hitting Louisiana as late as Monday. This is what triggers contraflow, not when the eye hits, which is what the projections focus on. Even if we determine that contraflow won't start until Sunday morning, troopers and other emergency personnel have to be staged. In fact, I'm sure they are planning and staging personnel and supplies as we speak. Having to divert manpower for a football game is going to be a problem. Can it be done, probably. Would they rather not have to do it? Absolutely.

I would like to see the game played. I think it could be done. However, also keep in mind that somewhere on campus there may be medical/special needs evacuees. All in all, I'm just glad it's not me having to make the decision. There's no good answer at this time.
