SEC Stats

At the midpoint of the 2013 season here is a statistical overview of the Tigers YTD.

All rankings are within the SEC.

Offense....

LSU is 3rd in Scoring O @ 41.4 PPG.
9th in Rushing O @ 194.1 YPG.
5th in Passing O @ 271.6 YPG.
6th in Total O @ 465.7 YPG.

Defense....

LSU is 4th in Scoring D @ 22.0 PPG.
9th in Rushing D @ 152.6 YPG.
3rd in Passing D @ 196.3 YPG.
4th in Total D @ 348.9 YPG.

LSU is tied for 6th in Turnover Margin @ +1.

LSU leads the SEC in the following categories...
Passing Efficiency, 3rd Down Conversions (58%), Field Goals (8/8), PATs (38/38) & Red Zone O (30 scores in 34 trips with 24 TDs & 6 FGs).

From an individual standpoint,

Jeremy Hill is 2nd in Rushing behind USCs Davis. Davis averages 123/ypg, with Hill @ 119/ypg.

Mett is 3rd in Passing @ 270/ypg, trailing Manziel & Murray. From a TD/INT ratio, Johnny Turnover is 14/5, Murray is 17/5 & Mett is an SEC leading 15/2.

OBjr leads the SEC in All-Purpose Yardage @ 209.1/ypg. 2nd place is 154.5/ypg.

Barrow is 6th in Tackling @ 7.0/tpg. Welter is next for LSU and is 19th with 5.1/tpg, closely followed by Kwon, who is 23rd @ 5.0/tpg.

Win, Lose or Draw, this team is fun to watch in all 3 phases of the game.

Can't wait for the second half of this season and the upcoming seasons. The future is BRIGHT!

I am not always the brightest but how is Mett 3rd in passing yet we are 5th as a team? Who is above us and how are they splitting QB reps but getting more yards?

ETA- OP why didn't you point out that LSU has the 3rd highest home attendance? I mean the board could use some positivity in the first half of this thread.

We miss Minter. We go from an average of 10 tackles a game and over 4 solo tackles a game at middle linebacker to an average of around 5 tackles and 1.5 solos a game. Minter finished with 55 solos last year. Welter is on pace for just over 20 solos on the year.

I am thoroughly confused about something! When reading the rant one would think our offense is unstoppable and our defense sucks arse, so how in the world is our total defense statistically ranked higher than our total offense??!

btw...that is not my opinion of the defense. I think they have made tremendous progress and are on the way to becoming a tiger defense we are used to!

It looks like Missouri and Vanderbilt. Both are only a couple of yards per game better.

Its pretty easy when "splitting" means your 2nd or 3rd QB (or even running back) get more than 1 pass through half the season. Even Bama's and Auburn's backups have 21 attempts.

Edit: I wonder if there is a record for lack of passes by anyone but the starter in the last 10 years?

Never thought I'd see the day where LSU would be compiling 465.7 YPG on offense and that would only be good enough for 6th best in the conference.

Efficiency is the key here considering the scoring avg.

That is amazing. 9th???

I would imagine that in most leauges 200 yards on the ground would be #1.

Pretty sure everyone knew we would. No one saw his production coming. Id thought our secondary would get better, but we miss reid as well. and people werent as high on him last year as they were in 2011.

There are alot of really good offenses in the SEC and conversely alot of bad defenses. So we have mid-ranked offense in a bunch of awesome ones. We have a decently ranked d in a bunch of pretty poor ones- statistically. Apples to oranges type thing when comparing rankings across the board O to D.

Considering the fact we averaged 175 YPG last season and that ranked 6th in the conference, its fricking unbelievable.

Alabama is 10th at 188.3 ypg. It's ridiculous how bad the rushing defenses in the SEC are.

The worst team in the SEC at rushing is currently at 151 ypg for Kentucky.

Last year 6 teams were below that number ranging from 119 ypg to 148 ypg.

It's just a freaky year offensively.

The most important stats that I take out of here are:

1st in 3rd Down conversion
1st in Red Zone Offense.

That's a remarkable improvement from recent years.
