LSU Softball Coaches

I was in Baton Rouge this weekend to watch my Aggies lose 2 out of 3 games to your tigers. That in itself made me angry however, what really made my blood boil was something I witnessed before all 3 games.
I witnessed both your head coach and your assistant coach disrespect our national anthem. I can tolerate losing, but what I can't tolerate is disrespecting our anthem.
I witnessed your head coach stand with her hands crossed in front of her and I witnessed your first base coach with her hands in her pockets. I probably wouldn't have been as upset if it would have happened one time but it happened every game this weekend. So I asked one of your fans if that's what they do all the time, they responded with a resounding yes, isn't it sad! I said why doesn't somebody say something?
I was told about this message board by one of your fans so I decided to create an account and let my feelings be known and see if it's the same feelings that the fans of LSU have. I felt as a man who served who has a brother who served who had a father who served and now have to two children in the armed forces I felt I needed to speak out.
If you Google etiquette on how to stand for the national anthem it gives you specific ways to stand it tells you to put your right hand across your heart or if you're in the military to stand at attention it also tells you to remove ball caps and sunglasses (something your assistant coach kept on) during the singing of the anthem.
I just wanted to call attention to this because many fans that I was around noticed the same thing, and like I said both of us found it totally disrespectful and absolutely shameful that the University allows that to happen.
I have been to many sporting events on the LSU campus and I find the fans amazing friendly and courteous some of the best college fans in the nation. I believe the fans of LSU deserve better this is not against the fans or the University but the actions of 2 disrespectful coaches

I understand your frustration, and I'm certain the coaches didn't mean disrespect, but I don't think posting this on a message board in the middle of the night will get you the result you desire.
A better course of action would be to directly email the coaches and athletic director.
Joe Alleva: joealleva@lsu.edu
Beth Torina: btorina@lsu.edu
Lindsay Leftwich: lleftwich@lsu.edu
Thank you for your service.

I’m 99.9% sure “the University” hasn’t evaluated the national anthem stances of these 2 softball coaches and certified them to be acceptable.

First of all, welcome to America where we are pretty much free to express ourselves as we want, or don't want.
Second of all...
Let's get one thing straight, contrary to popular belief, the National Anthem is NOT all about the military, it's about US, our country and freedoms. The same can be said about our flag, it's not about war, it's about freedom.
Thank you and your family for their service and all...
...but get over it, people are going to do what people do.
After all, it's a free country.

This is just sad. Sorry that you lost.

I think you are more angry at losing 2 of 3. Our athletic department recognizes veterans every baseball game. Don't know about the softball. Why were you looking at the coaches anyhow? Were you honoring the flag or thinking of something else?

If you would've been doing what you were suppose to be doing, you wouldn't have noticed. So I say you need to fix YOUR etiquette.

if the men were standing and removed hats that is good enough for me. yes i put my hat over heart after removing hat but asking everybody to put hand over heart is splitting hairs. Yes, if lindsey leftwich had her hands in pants that is tacky as shite, shoulda been at least by her side however, I left my sunglases on this saturday at a college game also. The sun was bright and in my face. You gonna melt over that? If lindsey had her sunglasses on so what?
Unless Torina and Dobson and Lindsey all kneeled then please STFU and go away and never come back here again. Got it?

I have met Beth Torina a couple of times. She seems like a nice respectful person. At least she was toward me. I don’t know her stance on the anthem or flag but I would be shocked if she intentionally was being disrespectful. That would be one of the quickest ways to get a LSU fan to turn on her.

Only dictators and communists demand that citizens “respect” the flag and anthem. I’m glad we live in a country that affords these freedoms to its citizens. I don’t give a flying frick what aTm and its male cheerleaders do during the anthem. Life’s way too short to care about such trivialities.

I stand behind our coaches as individuals and as great role models for their children. I do understand what you are saying, but I know they are not meaning any disrespect, not doing anything intentional to be disrespectful. I'm sure they would feel bad if their stance would appear disrespectful to anyone. I haven't heard of any complaints in the past so I'm pretty sure we are good here.
