switch texas with "da U" and that's the '18 schedule. Bonus we get texas in BR and not a neutral site. LSU finished #6 in '18. LSU today is a greatly improved team over '18.

Don't think auburn will be any better than the team we beat these last two years. Especially their defense.

We are NOT LOSING to the aggies. NOT going to happen.

Those other two games will determine playoffs or not. Both will be meat grinders.

Gators have a better coach now. They have a better QB but, lost top WRs and RB. Defense is loaded again.

bama is bama. Best offense we face all year. Defense lost it's secondary.

I see LSU's floor at 10 wins and ceiling at 12-0.

I believe we win Natty 2021, and become the new playoff darling from there on, the oddsmakers will speak of LSU as they do Ohio St, Clemson, and Alabama pre 2019

Biggest question mark is leadership/that special desire for greatness.

Great point! Joe had the "it" factor. What is promising to me is Myles sat behind Joe and watched him work for 2 years. If you listen to off-season reports, Myles is doing the same thing this time (as much as possible with covid) with leading the team in non-scheduled workouts and receiver drills. Guys like Chase and Deculus also stepping up on offense.

On defense, we have leadership in guys like Jacoby Stevens (who i believe will get 18 this year), and Coach O mentioned Andre Anthony leading the defense. I am excited to see what comes from him this year. Also, I like Jabril Cox bringing strong experience and leadership with him.

Other guys will bring that "desire for greatness" in their play on the field! Derek Stingley, Terrace Marshall, Damone Clark, Tyler Shelvin!

My concern is QB.

Thanks for bringing this up. I believe I pretty much answered the second part of your question previously under "OC without Brady"

QB - Lets cut to the chase. No replacing Joe Burrow! EVER! But Myles Brennan can easily be a championship QB. He does not have to put up nearly the stats Joe did to win it all. And DO NOT expect the offense to go back to what it was. LSU will continue to air it out because there wasn't Joe Brady without Coach O's vision to expand the offense. Even if Myles throws half the touchdowns Joe did, it still puts him in top 5 TD throws. I have gone bach and charted Myles' throws when he was in games last year, and his accuracy and arm strength was up this year. I think that has to do with putting on 40 lbs in the system and it will show this year. Myles will make every throw on the field with ease. Just give the receivers a chance and I'll take those odds!

One cause for concern I haven't seen yet is Schedule.

I actually like the schedule this year. It's the SEC West so the same argument could have been made last year (and probably was many times with Texas and Bama on the road). We get Texas at home. If we get past that game, we have several tune ups to get going before Florida. We outplayed them last year and it will take the same this year. I'm not a firm believer in Trask btw! Auburn is no different than the team we beat last year except they lost their nfl d-line, and i refuse to believe in Texas A&M until they do something on the field!

Overall, we know it always comes down to the Bama game! Win that one and we are in the driver's seat for the SEC West crown. We have played them extremely close at home even without an offense so i feel optimistic. It's okay if we lose one to Florida or Auburn because if we win that game we are most likely in!

How have we owned auburn at their place?
We are 3-7 against Auburn in last 20 years and 1-2 the last 5 years....

20 years is not the last several years bud! Outplayed them and easily should have beat them Les's last year, but it was his last year for a reason.

Obvious area of concern is the game experience at QB and loss of a high quality passing game coordinator.

Loss of a stud slot receiver

Loss of three impact LBs

Loss of OL continuity and signal caller at center

Area of optimism: DC with balls and two years of top notch recruiting stocked at key positions. Our DLine should make a large jump this year.

Thanks for the response. I answered all the rest of your concerns in previous replies. Check out the thread.

As far as a slot receiver, ever heard of Trey Palmer or Kayshon Boutte?? Coaches are raving about those two along with Racey McMath (who might actually be winning the competition for 3rd receiver). Move Jamarr anywhere you want for matchups. Terrace is a nightmare outside. Whoever you put at slot means Arik Gilbert gets the 4th best cover man on the defense!!! FOURTH BEST!? Receivers are more than fine in any position!

You often resort to saying the coaches are speaking positively about X player at Y position. I don’t think that’s a very solid form of argument. Do you actually expect them to say negative things?

My biggest concern would be passrushing and the LBs.

If that's your biggest concern, I'd say we are in a good spot!

LB's already answered previously..

So, pass rush - Bo Pelini has a reputation for running an aggressive/attacking D out of the 4-3. Give him the same or better athletes he had when he was first here and I think he's a happy camper! With two true DT's in Shelvin and Ika (backed up by Guillory, Roy, etc) teams are now forced to go 1-on-1 with at least one DE. Coach O has been high on TK McClendon who transitioned from TE. I expect him to battle for playing time along with a ton of experience from Glen Logan. Logan played extremely well in a lot of big spots last year! Strong depth waits behind them in Neil Farrell, Justin Thomas, Ali Gaye just to name a few. Coach O has said multiple times this off-season that we are legit 3-4 deep at each DL position.

And if you block all 4 guys up front on a play, you have to worry about Pelini sending the OLB's like BJ Ojulari and Phillip Webb on special pass downs or Derek Stingley from the corner! I'd say we got options and a lot of them!

Thanks for the post!

Your reasons are colored with alot of wishful thinking.
Lsu is losing their passing game coordinator and essentially their play designer in the most important part of the offense, passing the football. We lost the best qb we have ever had. We lost most of our oline. We lost our DC. Pelini was great back when offenses were different. He can be good, but the odds of him having an elite lights out defense are low.
All thats not to say we can go 9-3 or 10-2

Uh losing the best NCAA QB of all time. His Offensive Coordinator and the offense. The QB coach, the running back coach and about a dozen other staffers on the team. Not too mention one of the best DCs In the country.

None of this has even begun to mention the players and talent we lost after last year.

Brady and Burrow masked a lot of problems we had.

Literally all of the best players and coaches left the program, and we still have a gym teacher for a HC.

I’d be surprised if we didn’t lose between 3-5 games.
