I don't care much about what LSU does to photos for its promotional use, but is this photo endorsing a religion?
At first glance, I see a few guys painted, cheering for their team. Only after the removal of the crosses did I notice it. Seems petty.

Tell us what it means. This should be entertaining

What makes it a cross and not a lower case "t" ? LSU assumed it's meaning and acted upon the assumption. Maybe the PP (if any read this board) should change it to have the symbol followed by "- igers".

why are you arguing?
Are you offended as a christian?
Are you a free speech advocate?
Do you have access to a keyboard and want to fill some space on the rant?

Holden, I tend to agree that LSU's actions don't constitute censorship. LSU wasn't interfering with or abridging the students' communication. Rather, it was simply exercising its contractual right to control its own communications, namely its formal promotional e-mail.
It's not difficult to reconstruct the thought process of the university. As is their right, they chose a picture from Tiger Stadium to use in a promotional e-mail. They justifiably concluded that an official dispatch from a state funded university should not include the symbols of any one given religion. They exercised their contractual right to airbrush the photo. It's not really that controversial. They are merely tailoring their own communications in a way that is consistent with their understanding of their obligations as a state university.
The students are acting like vages. JMO.

Side question for those opposed to this - would you feel the same if it were a swastika?
Posted on 10/18/12 at 11:58 am to mr. penguin
i don't see anything wrong with it
if they had some sort of hindu or muslim signage above their chests, people here would be outraged
keep religion out of football

It was just a dumb move by LSU and unnecessary, regardless of whether the right to use and change the pic exists. LSU shouldn't have used the pic if they didn't want the crosses. Eliminating the crosses was sure to cause a stink. Any knucklehead would know that. It's look like an intention to start a controversy. Makes LSU look silly IMO.
Personally, I don't care one way or another other than it was plain stupid. Like they couldn't get some other picture in a stadium full of people to use for whatever reason...

I'm not arguing anything, offended or advocating. I am posting a comment in a thread just like you are, I thought that was the point of having a site like this.

Good for LSU for simultaneously hindering two basic freedoms of these kids in the name of political correctness? Yeah... Good for them

Which two freedoms did LSU hinder, exactly?

This. All of this.
I'm sure there were hundreds of pictures available, and LSU chose the one where they were going to have to airbrush over a cross. What an idiotic move.
Whether the cross should be there or not or any personal beliefs about the students themselves should be left on the OT or Political board.

You are the one that seems hypersensitive! None said the others couldn't wear their beliefs on their person. How many cross necklaces do you think people wear to games. Should they be banned? They weren't hurting anyone by wearing this at all so what's the problem?
