When we were dropped, the voters saw the same thing we all did, no coaching philosophy change from last year. So it was more how we looked when we lost to Wisky and Auburn. Voters (and I) didn't think we would win many games against the SEC west.

Now that the team is playing better and looking better in their play, LSU has not defeated a team of significance yet.

Beat Bama and everyone in the country will take notice.

LSU was penalized heavily because Wisconsin was unranked. They've turned out way better than people thought. The over-penalization of LSU should have been corrected by now since we have more info on Wisc and AU.

What bugs me is we dropped 17 spots and Wisconsin was unranked and went to #10. Which means they moved up 30 (or so) spots.

Like it was the worst loss of the schools history.

I do agree if we beat Bama we will be in the top 11 though.

I have been looking hard at the rankings as well, some of it really doesn't add up, but I agree with the "just win" sentiment.

Our destiny is literally still within our control. (which I did not think I would be able to say a few short weeks ago).

Doesn't matter right now. Just look at 6-0 Baylor. They haven't played anyone and are ranked #8. I could see them dropping 4/6 of the remaining games

It's because of timing.

Both of our loses were to unranked teams at the time of the loss.

More or less, this. The polls are really just week to week reactions. Voters are generally too lazy to account for how the season as progressed thus far. They generally just look to see if a team won or lost that week. If they won, they either bump up the chain to fill in where the losing team lost. Only HUGE wins will cause a team to skyrocket up and will force the voters to look at the season thus far.

LSU lost to an unranked team to start the season. 3 weeks later they lost to another unranked team. That knocked them out of the rankings and they haven't had a huge win yet to shoot them back up. FSU got penalized for their losses, but the voters are too lazy to look at every team and every team's opponents before submitting their rankings for the week.

Knowing now what we know about Wisc. and Auburn, if the "preseason" poll was put out today, LSU would almost assuredly be ahead of FSU.

Beat Bama and none of it matters. Beat Bama and we jump in the polls like never seen before.
