Hard to imagine we score 0 points at home against Ala. and Clemson lights up the scoreboard BOTH times they play Ala. I admit we don't have quite the talent (especially at QB) as Clemson but we can't be that far away...... Probably a combination of awful QB play and predictable play calling. Hopefully bringing in new offensive coordinator with more "open minded" offensive philosophy and unpredictable play calling plus better QB play will get us to promised land again...... I am cautiously optimistic. Anyone else?

LSU (and Bama) always play that game very conservatively on offense. Going forward, Canada and O need to attack and don't play not to lose.

Keep saying the QB for the bama game better be a passer who can make big plays with his feet. People want a Pro-style statue, but that doesn't get you of this conference.

We can play that way in most games, but when we play Bama our QB better present the ability to use his wheels. Watson is not on our Roster, but whoever starts has to play the way he Watson plays.

Yes - moving forward would be a major improvement.

He better be able to pass from the pocket at the same time lol Bama can just as easily keep that bad arse runner in the pocket like we did Lamar J. We need a smart passer that can create in the pocket basically move around and is comfortable there. That and OTs LSU would be fine if you actually attack Bama which is what I expect to see this coming year. I would be surprised if they come up with a plan in the offseason for these boys and work on that through out the season. Attack other defense's as you would attack Bama in bits and parts so when you get there you are well prepared for the most part but add in things they haven't seen. Huge plus that the SEC really doesn't know this new offense. This is the year to take advantage and I think we do that. GT

This is not at all a mystery.... This shadow staff everybody talks about? Their scouting and game planning efforts are focused on Alabama's biggest threats. While other defenses may not be as hip to LSU's offensive tendencies over the last several years or have the talent to stop it, Alabama knew LSU's offense backwards and forwards. Sure, our OL may have struggled physically against Bama's front 7, but it's clear to me that it's not so much a talent issue as it is a scheming issue. If a defense can successfully scheme its front 7 against an offense based on tendencies and formations, and they have good enough talent, then they've won the battle, and that has been a frigging landslide the last couple years in Alabama's favor. Fournette was an awesome talent, but he made us more predictable than usual, and Alabama took advantage. I think that advantage will not be nearly as great next year, although no doubt many hours will be spent in the offseason by Alabama staff charting Canada's offenses from the last 5-10 years.

You need to fully understand that LSU doesn't have anywhere near the talent as Clemson. Clemson has the best WR and probably the best QB in the country. LSU has good wrs, but they don't compare to Clemson, especially on toughness. There's a huge difference in offensive talent. Huge.

I think it has everything to do with a shadow staff scouting every tendency that the offense has. Not to mention the fact that Bama always plays like world beaters with super human power against LSU. DA's defense made huge gains this year against bama's O.

absolutely! we won a game 9-6 and then it seemed to become a blueprint.

it is a fact now that we can't beat bama with a conservative game plan. we HAVE to attack even tho mistakes will be made. their front 7 may be the best ever seen in college football, better than the old defenses Nebraska used to field. and they rebuild with lots of 5 stars, most of which have been around the program a couple of years. they don't even seem to recruit linebackers; they select them. they play, almost exclusively, man coverage and their safeties are free to wreck shite in the running game.

to beat bama, it is MANDANTORY to have a very good passing game AND it almost always helps to have a qb that can run. that Clemson QB had an arm (strong and accurate) and their TE was tall as a tree and knew how to play jump ball. w/o those factors, bama wins that game.

imo, it will be necessary to put in a package just for the bama game (but should be used in other games too) that involves those type of passes. it also will be necessary to concentrate on pass blocking by the OL and for our QB to have some plays where he gets rid of the ball fast.

I honestly think that LSU is afraid of 'Bama at this point. No reason the offense should be that awful, but it has been.

A more creative offense (more difficult to read) and less predictable play calling might help our OL look a lot better than they have in the past few years. They have had to do everything the hard way.

Agree with most of what you're saying but I'd add better oline play would help tremendously also.

We have already accomplished the biggest thing we needed to do to beat Bama, and that was to fire Miles. Next, we needed to dump Miles's weak and anemic offense. Done! Next, we needed to hire a new OC capable of installing a modern cutting edge offense. Done. Next we needed a coaching staff the football team wants to play for and that are capable of getting the team up to play. Done! Then lastly, we needed a coaching staff that knows how to manage a clock unlike Miles. Done!

Hence, the days of losing 5 in a row to Bama are over with. We will start winning about half the time. Which is okay when you are talking about a team the caliber of Alabama.

It was easy for Alabama to beat us the past two years because they new most of the plays we were running before the snap. In fact, that's why the offensive line looked so bad.

Fertilizer.

OM had great success vs Bama. Is our O talent lagging way behind theirs as well?
