Just shows how far to the bottom of our pitching barrel we were. Just didn't have bullpen depth this year. Which is inexcusable at a program like LSU
Cant totally blame the coaches on that one.
3 guys were out for the season with injury. 2 of them would have been major major contributors in Reynolds and Newman.
Glenn also totally flamed out unexpectedly.

It's been years since he's done that and not since Dunn arrived. And don't bring up the Gausman scenario in 2012. He threw like 15 pitches at the end of Game 1.
How is that different from if Nola and Poche each threw an inning on Monday?

Poche could have thrown. It's not like he pitched a complete game Friday. He should have been made available for a couple of innings.

I'll echo the pulling of Bouman. Pitch count or not, you have to win that game and knowing we were getting thin on pitching. Why pucker up and make the change to McCune?
The other point, from another thread, was why pitch to Survance in the 8th when he was beasting all series?. Pitch around him and get to the guy batting .211.
Wasteful job by Maneiri.

Why was Mainieri so against using Poche and Nola but in 2007, 2008, and 2009 he was obsessed with using Bradford and Coleman as a closer and a starter in the same weekend?

Maybe Dunn has changed his line of thinking there?

I have an ultra hard time believing Dunn was the sole decision behind going to McCune in the 7th and Domangue in the 3rd the next day.
Those moves just absolutely made no damn sense.
If you're going to throw our worst pitcher out there in an absolutely must situation you might as well put Robertson out there so they dont have a scouting report on him.

I wasn't talking about that. I'm talking about throwing a starter again on short rest.

I think its very plausible that it was Dunn's decision, not PMs. It follows Dunn's pattern here, not PMs

You missed the point.
My point was Mainieri still has quite a bit of say in his pitching staff it seems like.
Dunn doesnt seem like a guy to make dumb decisions.

No I didn't. I wasn't responding to your post originally anyway.
I was responding to Boat's post about why he used Bradford and Coleman like that years ago and seems reluctant to do it now.

The games were back to back due to a rain delay. So he pitched the end of game 1 that resumed in the 12th inning.
He threw 12 pitches in game 1. Then pitched again less than an hour later.
PM was worried that his arm was going to be wasted in the series if he didn't throw him:
quote:
"Quite frankly, the decision was based upon weather forecasts. Every weather forecaster I talked to (Saturday) morning, and I must have talked to five of them, told me it was going to be pouring by 1 p.m. this afternoon. So I'm saying to myself, this first game ends and we start (the second) at 11:30 a.m. So suppose I had not used Gausman in game one and we lost. And I start with Gausman in game two to save him, then in the fourth inning it starts pouring. We have a five-hour delay and I can't bring him back. It just seems crazy not to have used him at a time when it could have made a big difference.''
And the umps should have called that game in the 3rd or 4th inning when they made him pitch in a downpour and he lost his control

The pitching strategy turns into a pitching tragedy on Sunday night.

For the sake of the rant, Ole Miss doesn't think the magical route to Omaha doesn't run through LA.

They could have gone Fury, Devall, or Poche before that, and hardly anyone would have had a problem.
Go find threads from the day after ANY loss, and show me ONE day in which no one had a problem with CPM's decisions. No one would've had a problem You made my day with that one.

I do agree with pitching Poche,
Me too.
Who cares of it tired his arm? LSU needed the win. Worry about the next series when it happened.
Who cares if it caused permanent harm? LSU needed the win and if it ended his career, well that's just tough shite, LSU can always find another pitcher next year.
Just win NOW baby.

Yeah man, im sure 100 pitches or so over 3 days would have killed his career

A better, deeper BP is the right answer, and I had a bad feeling one loss would end a tourney appearance.
