I don't care work the guy, but Guilbeau is on point here. You don't rest your tournament life on the bottom of your pitching staff if you have other options. You can't save your "better pitchers" for the late innings when your on the verge of being blown out in the 3rd inning. Monday's third inning was a total choke job by the coaching staff.

I know it's GG, but damn it he has a point - Poche should have gone in the minute Cartwright imploded.
No he shouldn't have.

Mainieri threw Gausman twice in the same day.
Weren't the games scheduled to be 30 minutes apart?

Who in that stadium though Bugg who had been solid all year wouldn't be able to come any where close to the strike zone.
So it was the coaching staff that was hitting batters. It was the coaching staff who threw pitches in the other batters box. Cartwright and Bugg as I said earlier were good all year but for whatever reason they shite THE BED Monday.

Has anyone asked manairi why they let a microphone anywhere near the freshman pitcher that guaranteed a win?

The coaching staff put a pitcher who had thrown a total of 14 pitches all year vs SEC competition on the mound with the season on the line. 3-2 became 9-2, season over.

It started the night before after we pulled Bouman pitching a 62 pitch shutout for a guy who has constantly given up leads in his career.

Not really...just leave the kid in if he is doing a good job...not rocket science...just baseball!

That was obviously a bad decision but I would not have thrown Poche in there.

It's not like it's taboo beyond belief to throw a starter in relief a few days later. It really depends on how the guy responds which obviously we have no clue of that, but Mainieri has had a few pitchers in the past pitch on multiple nights in a weekend (not just in relief).
In a must win situation, you have to pull out all the stops

I think the Domangue choice is the one everyone really has a problem with. Not the Bouman or Bugg decision.
They could have gone Fury, Devall, or Poche before that, and hardly anyone would have had a problem.

The season was on the line in the 8th with 6 outs left the game before! Coaches knew we were thin on pitching so throw the kitchen sink at them!

It's been years since he's done that and not since Dunn arrived. And don't bring up the Gausman scenario in 2012. He threw like 15 pitches at the end of Game 1.

Use a key reliever, Fury(?), to get out of the jam, then have Poche start the next inning with the bases cleared. Seriously, 71 pitches on Friday is not a lot when it comes to Monday. You don't have to pitch Poche long, just a couple of innings. Of course, UH threw their guy 7 innings after pitching over 90 pitches on Friday.

Pretty good comment there Josh.

I don't think he was implying putting Poche in that early. I think he was saying after Bugg, bring in Fury, hope he can pitch a 2-3 innings, then possibly bring in Poche later in the game. (The Bradford/Coleman role we no longer try)

The names I posted were like our only options, and other than Poche, they aren't really good options.
Just shows how far to the bottom of our pitching barrel we were. Just didn't have bullpen depth this year. Which is inexcusable at a program like LSU

Hell, I can almost make an argument against bringing in Devall, Fury, Poche, or Domangue after Bugg.
Posted on 6/4/14 at 10:55 pm to Choupique19
Even if you put Poche in to let him throw say 30 pitches eventually you were going to have to go to someone else and the options were limited. We were screwed when our starter couldn't get an out in the first inning.

Like I said, it takes a special kind of pitcher. As others have said, Poche didnt exactly tire his arm out Friday night, had 2 nights of rest, he likely could have thrown some Monday.
The game was over as soon as Domangue was inserted in there and we all knew it.
