How many of Mike's 1-5 died because he was put into his travel cage to circle the football field 6 times a year?

I love Mike. As a kid, I never fully could comprehend how cool and unique it was that there was a live freaking tiger on campus.

I unfortunately suspect that the tree hugging do gooders will create such a shite show that whenever Mike does pass he may be the last Live mascot LSU has. I seem to remember 11 years ago there was a pretty big push from those whackos to try to block the acquisition of Mike VI. Hope not though

Its a 15 minute trailer ride, 8 times a year. You guys are acting like Mike's being forced to walk the Bataan Death march every day. Other tigers have done it without issue.

Im not saying make the sick Mike do it- he needs to be retired. He never liked to anyway. Hopefully the next tiger will.

I'm one of the oldest posters on this board, so I know all about tradition. Times change. Practices change.

I suspect earlier Mike's were "encouraged" to get into the trailer. Those practices are obviously not in favor today.

It's obvious Mike doesn't like the trailer and/or the ride around Tiger Stadium.

I don't have a problem with it.

Any animal that's put into an environment that the public can have access to mike 24/7 is stressful.he is well taken care of.but let him live out in peace in some type of refuge.

I'll file this under "pussification of America".
I bet back in your day, they made people use the bathroom according to their sex too. So old fashioned. Glad we're so much smarter now.

Its not hurting him to ride around in a trailor 8 times a year. And this thread is full of people cowering in front of their computers, hoping Peta will allow us to have another tiger, and already giving up on having the best gameday tradition in college football- which is Mike welcoming the opposing team onto the field along with "tigerbait" roaring in their ear.

With this many limp wristed Tiger fans, i guarantee we wont even have a live tiger mascot in 20 years. Keep on caving in, people.

We were in Baton Rouge last month ~ first time in many years and went to LSU to see Mike. Hadn't seen his habitat in person yet. Mike was sleeping with his back to us and a classroom full of kids came up and tried to get him to interact. Trust me, he slept through all the noise. Keep him where he is and keep him comfortable.

I don't think it matters at all that Mike does not go to the games. He is brilliant animal in the nicest Tiger habitat in the country. He is a mascot in or outside of the stadium because visitors to the campus see him regardless and don't see the purpose in parading him around when access to his habitat is easily had by anyone who wants to see the Tiger on the LSU campus. We could be like Memphis where TOM (Tiger of Memphis) is never on campus except at the games. He doesn't live on campus at all. He serves at their mascot 8 times per year not 24/7 like Mike.

Yes because being a solitary animal as Tigers are, he would be better off in a zoo instead of his own 15,000 state of the art Tiger Habitat with 24/7 personal care by a staff that is much more invested in him clinically and emotionally. And without the worry of other Tigers roaming around him. Tigers by nature are more stressed when they are around other Tigers roaming around. They aren't like people. They do not have a loneliness emotion. That comes straight from the mouth of the director of the sanctuary in Indiana where he came Rosco came from.

If anything is "stupid", it's this:

That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. So you just think because we're humans, we can just magically snap our fingers and make Mike get in his travel trailer? Good luck with that.

Have you seen that full video? Those Indians are hunting that tiger on elephant back. They have taken multiple gun shots at this point and clearly didn't get a good hit on him. The tiger disappears into his "grassy element" to sneak up on them and look what that beast does. He had had enough of that sh!t and was going to put an end to play time...In my opinion, truly one of the most magnificent creatures on this planet.

Tigers are badass and Mike VI is a beautiful animal.

and where is he going to get this refuge? You do realize other zoos may not want to take on the financial burden of a sick tiger? And then where is he going to go? In a much smaller cage somewhere out of the eye of the public? Or do you think there is just some open land somewhere for retired tigers? do you idiots actually think anything through?

If it's too cruel to take him into the stadium, it's too cruel to have him in a habitat on campus.

So an 8'x16' cage, being towed around one of the loudest stadiums in America, in front of 100,000 people = a $3 million habitat with a night house and 24 hour caretakers......

Know how I know you're fricking retarded?

Would you rather be stuck in solitary confinement in prison (Mike's travel cage) or allowed with the general population in prison (Mike's habitat).

Or not in jail at all?

I've always said that I have no problem with Mike in his habitat and going to 7 home games a year. He'll be fine.

But if you think the travel cage is cruel, then you should just never have a tiger on campus at all. I don't see how one can argue that the habitat is fine but the cage is not. The tiger's entire life is spent in a couple of hundred square feet enclosure.

So what's the other option for a tiger like Mike, who was transferred from a Tiger sanctuary in Indiana? You can't just take a tiger born into captivity and dump him into the wild. Also, there are only 2 or 3 zoos in the country that clhave better accommodations for captive tigers than LSU once you consider the size of the habitat and the quality of vet care.

Better yet. Let's build them all hundred acre palaces and feed them aborted babies. We can all feel good about ourselves. That's the point of the ridiculous habitat he has now: to make people feel good about how well they treat an animal.

Look how awesome we are!

You are seriously being way too dramatic with this.

Almost everybody here has taken car rides confined for longer on a road trip. Get real
