How can this be done when I can't tell what's happening by listening to Hawthorne? Seriously.

Yes, he said this!

I was at the game but having a cold one in the club and I heard it. My dad and I laughed big time--like you said, comic gold.

On the post game show today when JH was giving the line up on this week's coming events on the LSU network he finished by saying, "And next Saturday the men's basketball team finishes the regular season with their final game in Alex Box Stadium."

Maybe that will give us a chance to win.....

I think his major problem is his vision. I don't think he sees well enough to call baseball.

there are times when he'll argue with hanegriff about certain rules in baseball. i feel bad for hanegriff sometimes because hawthorne will never admit he's wrong

It was 8th inning, HC down 15-3 when they hit a home run. The fans clapped for them.

Hawthorne was amazed. He compared it to fans in tiger stadium cheering for the other team if they opened the game with a runback for a touchdown.

The man is crazy. How can you compare an insignificant home run at the end of the game to a runback for a touchdown on the first play of a football game?

Some rantard made that exact point the other day in a thread about LSU baseball fans.

There are alot of good people who arent calling LSU games are running up huge hotel spankavision bills on road trips and charging them to the LSU Athletic Dept. Good people is much less a characteristic needed for the LSU broadcaster than actually being able to call a game correctly. I dont know who Jim has pictures of but he obviously doesnt keep his job on merit or ability!

He did one today:
"Runner on first, here's the pitch. The bunt is down and it's a perfect bunt... the throw is to second base just in time for the out."

I was totally confused until I realized what he really meant was that the throw went to first base with the second baseman covering the bag.

Not to mention that he consistently calls the wrong pitch

Did you hear him today trying to explain the HC pitcher's "breakin ball"? He said something like "that thing just broke away from the batter which is unusual because from the lefthander it normally breaks in to the right handed batter". So apparently he was trying to describe some kind of magic, video game type screwball pitch.

It was actually just a changeup.

The issue is nothing personal. Jim just can't describe a game well enough. I have listened him call baseball, football, and basketball in the last 3 years. It is impossible to know exactly what is happening when he calls a game. And, add to that the fact that he has become extremely negative and bitter the last several years.

It is embarrassing that we have a championship caliber baseball and football team and a junior high caliber announcer.

Jim may have once been great. But, that doesn't mean he still is. And, some of you being Tiger fans for 50 years doesn't make him a good announcer either. He's a great Tiger who should have hung it up 5 years ago.
