Did they make such a big deal out of it while he was alive?

They also carried around a fake cat skeleton after Mike 6 died so frick anything associated with that god awful university
I'd completely forgotten about that. frick those tweaker jort-wearing meth heads.
That level of low-class BS is right up there with stomping on our tiger eye and smoking cigars on our field.

The LSU TGBFT has a lot to learn about timing. Imagine a visiting band throwing shade over a long-established Florida tradition at their own stadium.
It's the same principal as Auburn coming in, stomping over the LSU logo and lighting up cigars. You just don't do that.

At least 3 band members were hit with cans of beer. One was unopened and hit a girl in the face.

Not even remotely close. There is no “tradition” of stomping on your opponents midfield logo.
TGBFTLhas been playing pre-game between the 3rd and 4th quarters for EVERY game since the early 80’s…roughly 40 years.

Maybe they were playing Hey Baby

Per my wife, former Tiger Band member, the director knows when the band is allowed/not allowed to play anything. That's why he's always wearing a headset throughout the game. Both bands are allowed and not allowed to play at specific times, mainly so they don't play over each other.
This is 100% true. <——— Former member, as well.

What’s hilarious in all this is our band is run by such prudes they won’t even play their most infamous song to try and maintain “class”

Unopened can was high noon. Never heard of that.

Maybe Florida will quit scheduling Tom Petty Day when they play LSU. They know LSU has a much longer tradition of playing Pregame at the end of the 3rd quarter - regardless of what stadium they are in.
THIS. TGBFTL will play pregame to start the 4th quarter no matter what. That was a long-running tradition when I was in it in the mid 90s and that organization doesn’t drop traditions.

Where have you been? Opposing bands pull that shite in Tiger Stadium all the time. Auburn's and Bama's bands always play while Tiger Band is playing. Tennessee's fans started a cheer during the LSU alma mater last weekend.
Kudos to Tiger Band for, in the words of UF god Tom Petty, not backing down. Also, the thing they did with their shoes was awesome!

Since 2017 isn’t a long standing tradition.

Why even let us bring our band if the time is never right for them to play? Geez they are so touchy about a dead musician who i never heard associated with the university until he died.
This is correct. Tom Petty had nothing to do with the University of Florida. He went to Gainesville High School and the story goes that he dropped out and did not graduate. He spent his early years performing in a bar band at a place called Dub’s and another called The Cypress Lounge. Then he moved to LA and made it big time in the music industry.
I grew up there and went to GHS myself. The whole UF thing is a lie.

I guess they don't remember how some gator fans acted in tiger stadium during the moment of silence for the victims before the first game in TS after 9-11
Posted on 10/16/22 at 12:01 pm to TheDude321
Did Tom Petty ever even attend a UF football game?

Really? Petty is from Gainsville and actually worked for the University of Florida on their grounds and maintenance crew before he hit it big in music. Google "Tom Petty Tree"
Yeah but the point was that they didn’t give two shits about him when he was alive but now that he’s dead they get all nut happy and sentimental over it. It just screams fake bullshite.
