Kinda funny to look back at this article from two months ago. Of course the game against South Carolina was a disaster, but the assumption that LSU wasn't a contender, despite just that one loss, was WAY off.

LSU Not A Contender.

Not one of us thought we were a contender after that game.

Last sentence of article

quote:

You never know what can happen in March and if something special really happens, you’ll want to be one of the ones that were in on the ground floor.

So they didn't count LSU completely out.

If you watched the LSU-South Carolina game from start to finish, you could see that LSU started horribly, gained traction and got back into the game and then ran out of gas. Anyone who saw that full game probably worried LSU might not have enough to go all the way.

It’s a sign of great coaching that LSU fought through some close games after that and shook off the other loss to Tennessee in which the Tigers blew a 17-point lead. Thankfully, Mulkey and LSU didn’t accept they were a finished product after the South Carolina game.

We all thought LSU was not going to be able to beat South Carolina this season. Kim Mulkey herself said no one was beating South Carolina so you can't fault anyone for believing her.

Still can’t believe we weren’t at least a 2-seed in the tournament.

The way we shot in the title game, especially from three, I think we would have beaten South Carolina, or at worst been a really close game

Oh, absolutely. But, it's also a testament to not prognosticating a team's potential in February, off of one game.

I wonder if LSUWB would have planned the outside game (shooting from the perimeter) in lieu of the inside game with SC if that game would have turned out differently? Ofcourse they would have had to make those shots they made against IOWA.

A sports writer/personality gets a sports take wrong and still has a job.

Have they become the new meteorologists?

Didn’t South Carolina shoot like 75 percent the first half? They were just on.

That is kinda funny to look at now, but honestly he wasn't wrong in thinking that at the time. Hell, I have season tickets and watched nearly every game, and I still can't believe we won the natty this year. I loved this team, but I never thought we had enough to make it past a Sweet 16.

Mulkey really got them locked in once March Madness started though. We played outstanding defense throughout the tournament, played to our strengths on offense, and eventually our shooting came around.

They shot 80% in the first quarter.

As long as they didn’t have to play South Carolina again they had a shot. Stars aligned and it worked out.
