Every once in a while, a client would rather lose than give up. This can be especially true where an instutional client has multiple decision makers. No one wants to own a surrender. You can always blame a loss on the lawyers.
Except for public perception of weakness and a massive waste of money, are there any real repercussions for the SEC as a whole if they lose?

terminate LSU or any such SEC member would not be able to pursue legal recourse for its termination.
Right. The SEC does have the authority to do it. But that doesn't mean there won't be repercussions.
A judge doesn't have the power to remove the judicial recourse of a conference member.

I think so. Here is why.
The stated goal of the lawsuit was to prevent LSU from interfering with its expulsion by the SEC.
It seems unlikely that was the real goal. What was LSU realistically going to do?
The real goal, I think, was to force LSU to submit to the SEC. The conference wanted to prove it could govern its own and didn’t need the feckless and toothless NCAA.
That is why (if reports are accurate) the SEC was willing to dismiss if LSU agreed to a joint statement acknowledging wrongdoing. It was about the acknowledgement.
But LSU refused to kowtow. Few saw this coming, and I think they were all a little shocked when LSU called the bluff.
This is a long way of saying this. This was a power play. The surest way to lose power is to prove unequivocally you don’t have it. That is what happens if this lawsuit is dismissed.
Bama arrogance met Cajun canaille. Never ever underestimate the latter.

Given the veracity of LSU/Louisiana's response, does that change the timeframe in which you think the judge will rule on the motion to dismiss?
Maybe it's bias, but this seems pretty cut and dry - LSU dominated the conversation and the SEC, which was grasping for straws, ran out of them to hold on to.

I don’t know the judge, so hard to say.
I will be in the Northern District of Alabama next week for a mediation with a magistrate there. I’ll try to get a feel for the judge.

The SEC’s biggest problem is that it still hasn’t identified a concrete First Amendment injury
There never was a valid First Amendment claim. But the SEC had to claim SOMETHING that would get thier case before an Article 3 federal judge in Alabama.
Breaking an SEC rule isn't against the Constitution. The bullshite First Amendment claim was just a last second hail mary attempt to override Will Jordan's ruling in the 19th JDC.
