Arizona impressed me from what I saw. As far as the hire, I remember when Texas hired David Pierce from Tulane in 2016, and it wasn't viewed as a home run hire. Look where Texas is this week. I think Johnson is pumped to come here, as he should be. Geaux Tigers!

Apologies for being brash, but I don’t think where Jay Johnson is from matters as much in baseball as it would in football and basketball. The type of recruit is just different.

I hope he brings a few of his studs over from Arizona. He has Susac and Berry who were fricking studs.

I kinda wanted Bianco. Wouldn’t have loved it or hated it. I like the fact that Jay Johnson’s teams appear to be able to rake. Get some good pitchers in there with the right pitching coach and we’ll win Nattys or be in the picture at least. I like the hire.

Johnson was runner up and in Omaha twice in 5 years. Bianco, albeit an LSU guy, has done good things at Ole Miss and is a really good coach, but has only been to Omaha once in 20 years. I think Johnson is a good hire if he can hire the right assistants for a top staff in all areas: pitching, hitting, recruiting, and overall game day decisions .

Credit SwaggerVance - SECR:

quote:

Some might forget that this is the guy that knocked State out of its own regional in 2016 after winning the SEC and had what I believe was maybe State's best team ever. State was loaded that year and this guy brought in Arizona his first year as a head coach there and won. Then finished the runner up in the CWS. He's only 44 years old and just getting started in my opinion. Obviously not LSU's first choice, but this is an Elite coach.
