Was the Indy Bowl ever that big of a deal, other than being the best available at the time?
Most coaches acknowledge that the biggest issue in program building, is getting a bowl and the extra weeks of practice (with a lot of guys who can't play until next season). That's a lot of the reason Tennessee has struggled to get moving again, they've been missing bowls outright.
Then, factor in that it's in Louisiana, and we were trying to rekindle excitement for the program (a lot like current basketball); it was a chance to showcase the team in front of a 'home crowd'.
And yeah, it was also "best/only bowl available".

I like how LSU keeps hiring former players and such. Keep the strong alumni going. Can't hurt in recruiting either where they can sell we'll definitely take care of fam when you play here.

From article below:
Eddie Kennison, a former LSU and New Orleans Saints receiver, has enjoyed business success since his career ended.
Eddie Kennison wasn't exactly a superstar in the NFL, but he's a big success in his post-football life, as illustrated in a story by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Kennison, who played at LSU from 1993-95 and the Saints in 1999, heard the numbers about the troubles athletes faced when their playing days ended. He did something about it by taking executive coaching classes at Stanford University and the Kellogg School of Management in the off-seasons of his 13-year career.
Now he's collecting businesses like he used to collect pass receptions.
"[In football], it's 11 guys on the field at one time," said Kennison. "My job is to make sure I hold up my end of the bargain to make the guy next to me look good or be good. And for whatever reason, if he is having a down day, I have to become even stronger to make sure we hold each other accountable and hold each other up so that nothing is lacking, ever."
Kennison has also found time to work through his own foundation to help find a cure for lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that has afflicted Shamika (his wife). Kennison's foundation has raised $90 million toward the cause during the past 10 years.

Is no one going to acknowledge that this very well may be a hoax?

“Why did you field that punt 9 yards deep in the end zone, Eddie?”
“That was a punt? Thought it was a kickoff..”

Keeping the Alpha swag in the program/family. What we are building is a program with elite talent, an elite system coached by people who LOVE Louisiana soil. Bringing the family closer, ignoring the haters, not willing to take a back seat to Anybody.

My wife made us leave the Miss St game a few minutes before Eddie’s punt return. As we were walking up the hill, I could hear the loudest roar coming from the stadium. I told my wife, “you do realize “history” is being made right now, don’t you?” Well, we have never left another game before the clock says 0:00 since!

Eddie Kennison in the Independence Bowl is one of my favorite childhood LSU memories. The Independence Bowl was a huge deal at that point in LSU history.

No one cares about grammar because many of the posters aren't smart enough to understand it. You shouldn't attack the ones who speak the English language. Try to bring the others up to just a basic modicum of it all. If you finished the 7th grade, you should be conversant in English. If not, there are intelligence issues, like it or not.

Did you know at that time I believe that there were like Less than a dozen punts returned from the end zone in NCAA history and LSU had returned about 1/2 of them. I don’t remember the exact number, but I think it was 7.

I will eat some crow since it looks like it will be official soon.
