LSU has revamped the defense in a major way through the portal. All rankings from 247

- Patrick Payton: No. 1 EDGE
- Tamarcus Cooley: No. 2 S
- Mansoor Delane: No. 2 CB
- Ja’Keem Jackson: No. 8 CB
- Jack Pyburn: No. 8 EDGE
- Sydir Mitchell: Texas DL
- Jimari Butler: Nebraska EDGE

I think this defense has top 15 potential. Especially considering we have a few key pieces in place like Whit Weeks, Harold Perkins, Dom McKinley, Guillory, Reliford, and Keys. I also expect Pickett to be a major contributor.

I am pumped about this upcoming season as I believe we have the most complete and experienced roster we’ve ever had under the BK era.

Agreed. We should be able to get to the QB, lock up WRs on the outside, and tackle better in space.

LB play should be fine.

My only concern is DT play. You can't let teams get a push against you up front. Hopefully Dom steps up and Guillory is ready early on. I'm not sure this is really Breax's position, or how good Mitchell and Shone will be.

Suggs returning for another year would've been nice to help the Freshman get time to develop.

Weeks and Perkins need to be 100% post injury in order for this D to be
Top 20. Hopefully neither loses any lateral quickness.

Look at what Bo Davis did with this Dline when Guillory went down. If those freshmen, McKinnley and Breaux, played as well as they did with less than a year in the program/weight room, then wait until this year. He also got that big DT from Texas and I’m sure this is for obvious running downs, mobile QB’s and goal line stands to go with Guillory. I think our DT’s will take a huge step forward next year.

Is it a top 15 defense, it’s way too early to say. This defense can be between 20-30, which should be great if the offense can find a run game.

I'm confident in what Baker will do with the added talent and depth on Defense(I expect us to pick up 1 more S, maybe in the next window, even if we dont we should have 1 guy out of Toviano, or Spears, or Rogers or somebody) my only concern is if we're able to develop a true running game to take pressure off Nuss, to me that's the biggest issue moving forward

Still need another safety imo.

I'd also like a penetrator at d tackle.

FSU offense was so bad and they were in major holes early I really think it was a lack of pass rushing opportunities. We saw him post 7 in 2023. I think he will return to that production.

I like the aggressive off season portal work, but will need to see it on the field.

If LSU can play top 15 defense they can win the whole thing.

I am positive as well, but lets wait and see what we do in middle of SEC play.....then we can judge.

Plus the fact that Blake Baker and the rest of the coaching defensive coaching staff are now more settled and will be able to coach them up.

Still worry about the secondary

Pickett is the only cover guy and he’s young

To be seen what the Florida transfer can do. He just looked like another guy against Miami this season

Cooley is limited physically. Looks smaller and not very fast.

Delane looks solid but also not very fast. Probably a better Safety option at the SEC level.

The returning players on the roster had better take a big step forward.
