Problem is
1. Stadium is less than 46k capacity
2. Home many fans can afford to fly all the way to Ireland, stay at a hotel for 4 nights and pay for game ticket for more than $1.6k per person just still make it where lsu can atleast be guaranteed $3.5 million to $4 million while playing in a small stadium. If the game were to be played in Mexico City ya makes sense flights are cheaper per person and won’t have to stay 3 to 4 days can just fly on Friday go to game on Saturday and fly back on Sunday.
What I would have done as an athletic director is yes play in Ireland but make it a home & home series:
Reschedule the Arizona state home and home series to 2034 and 2035
Also take advantage of having 3 off weeks in 2020 and 2026
2030
August 24 vs ? (Ireland)
2036
August 23 vs ? (Mexico City) or G5 / FCS if opponent is playing @ Hawaii during the season

One game will have to be moved.
LSU still has some openings in other years.
Do you keep SMU and Arizona St or move one of those?
The ACC is also more than likely going to 9 game schedule so SMU and LSU will probably agree to terminate contract
Posted on 8/22/25 at 2:46 pm to Midtiger farm
LSU will have 5 home conference games even years most likely so we would be home and him series that guaranteed us being the home team odd number years when we only have 4 conference home games

Then their would be no reason for lsu and SMU to sign the contract if lsu would have known that they were moving to 9 conference games.
If lsu does want to play in Ireland / international game it will have to be played during an even number year when lsu has 5 conference home games

I would rather watch lsu play a road sec game on tv than attend a home game in person against an FCS or directional school opponent from the Southland, Sunbelt, CUSA, MAC, etc.

Arizona state buyout is only $200k for both games
SMU buyout is $2 million for both games total
UTAH is $4 million for both games total
What LSU should do is keep the SMU series but switch locations for 2028 & 2029 Arizona state series move to 2034 & 2035 then Utah series switch locations for 2031 & 2032
Or just switch the SMU series locations and the Utah series locations
LSU should take advantage of hawaiis week 0 rule and also get a 2nd off week
Especially 2030,2031,2036 where LSU can have 3 off weeks
2026:
August 29 vs New Mexico State
September 5 vs Clemson
October 3 vs McNeese State
2027:
August 28 vs Northwestern State
September 4 vs Houston
September 11 vs UTSA
2028:
August 26 vs Fordham
September 2 vs SMU
2030:
August 24 international game or home game vs G5 / FCS that will play @ Hawaii

2027
vs Houston (NRG Stadium)
Basically a home game for LSU
$4 million guaranteed
LSU is the designated home team
LSU will occupy southeast locker room and east sideline
ESPN / ABC owns the broadcasting rights.

Not worth playing in Ireland
Seating capacity is less than 45k
LSU would be guaranteed less than $3.5 million for playing the game in Ireland so only maybe 20k tickets for LSU fans.
If LSU wants to do an international game have it at Estadio Azteca 80k + capacity stadium and there would be alot more LSU fans that would go to Mexico City to attend the game than going to Ireland
To play a neutral site game would need the right team to play against.
Even though will probably never happened but I wish LSU & Texas could play an international game or 2 at Estadio Azteca stadium in Mexico City
Could end up being a sold out stadium especially since Mexico City is only like 2 hours flying from Houston. And there’s alot of Hispanic / Mexican longhorn fans. So there would be a lot of longhorn fans at the game.

That's obvious. Who wants McNeese? There's no advantage to playing them -- in fact we've played them in the past and they gave the Tigers trouble

It doesn’t make sense to any practical human
Enjoy yourself traveling and save football for domestic ideas. Kansas state is doing it because no one notices them.
In the era of pearchasing players it seems like a huge budget waste.

Or LSU could play in Baton Rouge or at an opponents stadium.

Maybe I’m in the minority on this, but there is no value in playing in this game.
Other than Brand recognition, which believe it or not, exists in Europe. The broader and better you have brand awareness metrics, the higher you can justify value for being partners with LSU, including advertising and NIL. But to be fair, it isn’t a totally objective value creation event vs the hard cash numbers others have listed

They drop SMU or Az St not doing 9SEC plus 2 power 5 no way

McNeese will be dropped
McNeese is the least likely to be dropped. With 9 game SEC schedule, LSU will definitely keep McNeese.

Move Arizona state to 2034 and 2025 season that is Arizona state next available seasons. SMU is a closer opponent and more fans would be willing to go to Dallas / Arlington for the game instead of flying all the way to Tempe Arizona
Also Arizona state buyout is only $150k per game
SMU buyout is $2 million for both games total
Most P5 teams are canceling or moving a P5 home and home into to 2030s
