People are usually shortsighted when it comes to these kinds of evaluations.

Coaching staff - LSU is as good as anybody. Return a top 10 D staff. Bring in a top 10 O staff

Roster - top 10 nationally. EVERYBODY has new pieces that have to work together.

The roster has basically no holes in it. Sure, the depth isn't what everyone wants it to be but every team deals with that now. That means injuries are a bigger wildcard now than they used to be. Welcome to NIL. LSUs starting 22 matches up with just about anybody aside from the obvious OH st, UGA and TX

Schedule - LSU has a tough schedule but basically every SEC team has a brutal schedule. LSU gets all of the toughest games at home except for OM and TN and both of those games are winnable.

OM returns a very good roster but it's not a slam dunk top 10 overall. OM lost their offensive braintrust. Breaking in a new DC from a D that wasn't exactly lights out the last few years. That's a winnable game.

TN - Huepel is good. TN's roster is very close to LSU. Fringe top 10 on paper. Huepel vs Baker - wash. Knowles vs Kiffin - Kiffin slight edge. I think that game is 50/50. Let's be honest, TN wasn't exactly intimidating in Knoxville last year.

All things considered, LSU has just as good of a shot at a couple of playoff wins as anybody.

If you have one of the highest payrolls in football and lose 4 games, that is an absolute awful season.

I'd say year two is playoffs or bust, but the first year at a new school with a whole bunch of new players (albeit talented) and a new scheme to work, along with a difficult schedule could result in three losses and not making the playoffs with a deep SEC and top heavy Big 10.

So what are fans going to do if we don't make the playoffs? Agitate to fire Kiffin?

Vegas odds are usually in the ballpark. We will be a LOT better than Kiffin's first team at Ole Miss. But might need a second year for that natty. But we will get there.

Imagine if BK was still the coach and 8-4 was considered successful based off the schedule this would not even be entertained. Kiffin should not get different treatment from this board or the fans that demanded 10-2 or 11-1 every season.

Let’s be real, kiffin has gotten double the support BK got. Playoff should be the floor with a 40+ mill roster

We would have been satisfied with Kelly going 8-4 yr one, it's the fact that he never improved from his 1st season.

Kiffin is taking over a 7 win team, had to bring in all new qbs and receivers, and is installing a new offense.

No one would be satisfied with 8-4 regardless of situation. I get what you’re saying though, but depth will never be achieved with this level of free movement is my point. We didn’t spend 40+ million for 8-4 either, it was spent to win now.

The only team with a better roster top to bottom on our schedule is Texas. We are pretty much tied with Aggy and Ole Miss. slightly better than Bama and Tenn. marginally or significantly better than the rest. 8-4 would be a massive disappointment 65 new players or not
