See below for images with graduates and transfers removed.
Notes:
• Cameron Wire is listed as a Graduate here, rather than just another transfer, because he has fulfilled his commitment to LSU. Wish him the best.
• The need at Cornerback is both apparent and urgent.
• The state of the O-Line is yet to be determined, though we can have some confidence in the starting five.
Potential Position Changes
• Garrett Dellinger — He is the real question mark here. He was viewed as perhaps the best lineman on the team, but the combination of his failure at Center, his injury early in the season, and the win over Alabama with Miles Frazier usurping at LG all coalesced, leaving the coaches with a sense of obligation, perhaps, to keep their hands off the starting lineup. Notably, though, Dellinger was game-planned back into the rotation at LG, while Cameron Wire, for example, never rotated in for either of the freshmen tackles. I think we will see Dellinger back as the starting LG, unless he can redeem himself at Center.
• Marcus Dumervil — … is not a TE.
• Derrick Davis Jr. — Will he move to HB with 6 other guys there, or would he get more playing time starting the season as the #2 FS? He’s the next man up in a competition with Sage Ryan, Greg Brooks, and Major Burns for one of those three spots.
• Maason Smith & Mekhi Wingo — Do you really want one of these two dogs to sit on the bench? I’m sure the coaches will have a good “multiple” plan, but we might just see one of these guys move to the “Big Defensive End” slot. They would look great together on 3rd downs, bringing the NT off the field. FWIW, if Ed Orgeron believed DE was “a more natural fit” for Maason Smith, I believe him. If NT Jaquelin Roy goes pro, that solves the dilemma. But wouldn’t it be nice to see Smith/Roy and Wingo/Guillory operating in seamless shift work?
• Savion Jones & Quency Wiggins — As it stands, Zavier Carter is the only returning Jack on the team, and we might just see one of these two guys take over at that spot. Jones has actually taken reps at the position, but Wiggins might have the better pass rushing skills. If LSU can snag Bradyn Swinson from Oregon, the urgent need at Jack could be resolved.
• Harold Perkins & Greg Penn — Perkins only played one game at the Jack position before moving back to Sam (Base 3-4) and Will/Spy (Nickel/Dime). I see him mastering the Will position, so he can stay on the field the whole game. Greg Penn has the mass to move inside to the Mike spot. We may not see the Base 3-4 for a long time, but either DeMario Tolan or West Weeks will have to fill it on occasion.

I like that team a whole lot...It wins the West again just how it is... but how we add depth to the obvious critical areas dictates if we can withstand injuries through the course of the year.

we need corners....like badly

Very informative, keep it coming. We are going to have a Damn strong football team next year. Talent and depth. Look out for the TIGERS IN 2023 !

Based on what?

I don't think this wins the west. We need some defense help from the portal. I think we're in pretty good shape on offense.
Bama still has better talent. For now.

Got to solidify the cornerback and edge.

Geez. LSU is thin on Defense, especially LB.
Posted on 12/12/22 at 12:40 pm to Mahootney
So we need 10 more players, particularly on defense.
Posted on 12/12/22 at 12:48 pm to ROPO
Yep. I counted 75 players listed. Add in maybe 3-5 kickers, deep snappers and punters.
Unless we get another transfer out or 2 -
We've got 5 or 6 open spots.
DB
DB
DT
LB
TE
TE
Is what I see as our needs are.

Bama still has better talent?????
Bama looses at least 7 and probably 8 starters on each side of the ball... and is loosing backups to them to the transfer portal.. It's not that rosey over in T-Town like we usually assume. There was a reason why Bama hit the portal so hard last year and will this year too. They are in trouble at QB especially.
LSU returns basically its whole offense. We have quality on defense at all positions, although our depth is dreadful and we have talent but real inexperience at CB. Our incoming Freshmen better be ready to play. Opportunity abounds.
I take the Tigers to repeat.

My Man, CBK said in a presser that Davis will remain at RB and they shut him down to preserve his RS.

Ain’t no way Todd Harris is still just a JR
