Yeah, we should let our coach’s contract dwindle and hand rival coaches the tools to take our recruits. That’d be a wonderful plan.

I'm not sure why you're still arguing this after all these pages. Rival coaches already have the tools to dissect and diminish Orgeron's coaching resume without even addressing his contract.

Yes, extensions are the law of the land in college football these days. That doesn't mean the extensions are rational.

Makes sense to drop this on a Wednesday night during the game, since the only question on everyone’s mind is “what’s the new buyout?”

19-7 and back to back 3rd place finishes in the West. We comin.

Good thing we locked him up, im sure there were other teams inquiring about him.
I knew this 9-3 season meant so much more to the lsu brass than the last 6 we had

It’s all about the buy out. Johnny jones and assistants & Les and assistants are all off the books.

I’m looking at it totally from a recruiting standpoint.

You tack on 4-5 more years on O’s deal with the same salary with big bonuses for championships. Put the buyout at 10- 8 mil.

Again, no dead money on the books... wheels fall off the wagon next year, pay the $8M and restart. No one can recruit against the contract by telling an 18 year old “Hey, don’t look at the years on his deal!!! Look at his buyout!!!”

There’s no silver tongued doosh that could not only explain what a buyout is while keeping them from falling asleep, but also selling a line of bullshite as to why it fricks them.

You don’t give him the extension, Saban recruits against him saying “O is on the hot seat!”

Give him an extension with a massive buyout... see gus bus... suck arse and have to suck arse for years to come because of the buyout

The middle ground is 5 yr extension. Tear up the last one.... heavily incentive based new contract, 10M buy out, drops by 2M every year after November 27, 2019. So hypothetically if he got fired next year in December, it drops to 8M.

Horrible move by LSU to give O an extension right now. Yet again alleva needs to be fired.

If he gets us to the playoffs next yr then yes give him and extension, what happens if he flops with the loaded team that’s coming back????

Must be getting extension for that dynamic offense hes running..no reason to do this..wait til next season and if
the offense and team improve give it to him..if the offense is the same garbage routinely on the field then send him packing

I don’t like this. He’s only 2 years into a 5 year deal and he’s had one season that fell short expectations and one season that exceeded expecations, but realistically we shouldnt be ever expecting less than 9-3 in the regular season. Definitely not extension worthy, especially not with 3 more years remaining

ETA: win 10 games next year and I’d be on board

Agree, but honestly don’t care as long as Alleva didn’t give him some ridiculous buyout.

Scrap any extension, do a new contract since he has 2 years of foundation built.

5.75 mil per year for 8 years

40 mil dollar buyout starting with new contract. Buyout decreases by 10 million each year. SECCG adds 2.5 million back to buyout. SECCG win adds another 2.5 million back to buyout Qualifying for playoffs adds another 2.5 million per round. CFPCG win is worth 10 million divided among coaches at head coaches discretion.
Any kind of investigation into the program (not individual players) is cause to terminate buyout.
All coaches, grad assistants, trainers, S&C staff, coaches assistants and analyst are to represent LSU at all times. Failure to do so will be cause for termination of buyout.

No shite. And we tell recruits that Saban is going to retire soon.

You think giving Orgeron this extension is going to keep these other coaches from saying he isn’t going to be here long? They say that because they don’t believe Orgeron can win a national championship and if in 2 years, he hasn’t even gotten LSU in the playoffs, he will likely beout the door regardless of the time left on his contract.

You’re the idiot. Every school is extending their coaches contracts, Odom at Missouri, Muschamp in each of the last two years at SC, the examples go on and on. LSU is doing nothing different than what everyone else is. The melt is hilarious, though.

Of course they are. But it doesn’t help in recruiting in a case like this. It’s not like he only had a year or two left on his current contract.

Nobody is “melting” over this. I don’t really care that they have him an extension because I know it doesn’t mean shite. If he fricks up and tanks the program, he’s gone REGARDLESS of his contract. Let him go winless in SEC next year (it’s not going to happen, but if it did). See where he is with his “new contract”.

My ONLY argument in this was about the “you got to do this for recruiting” that people were spouting. Not a single recruit left we are after this year is going to say “well, I was on the fence but now that they gave him an extension, I’m all on board”.

He's the 10th highest paid head coach in the SEC. The only coaches who make less are Barry Odom, Matt Luke, Derek Mason, and Joe Moorehead. I think it would be fair to pay him at least like an average SEC coach. For instance, he makes less than Jeremy Pruitt, Will Muschamp, and Chad Morris. I believe he should make at least as much, probably more, than those three. If LSU gives him a raise for a yearly salary of 4.25-4.5MM and add a year or two in length without a substantial rise in his buyout, I think that would be fair.

All his extra pay is going to his assistants. Guys like Pruitt, Muschamp, and Morris can take care of one side of the field, O can not.
