Perfectly logical way of viewing it, but rationality is frowned upon by some folks in this thread.

I agree with it. Waiting would have been my choice.

But it was done to show stability.

And here’s the information around the extension Odom signed after the 2017 season...

quote:

After a 1-5 start last season, Odom and MU ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak but lost to Texas in the Texas Bowl. Missouri gave Odom a contract extension through 2022 that kept his salary intact, mainly for recruiting purposes. Read more here: LINK

He deserves it. Buyout should be minimal though.

The buyout IS the extension.

You can lead the geniuses to water, but you just can’t make the stubborn SOBs drink. I didn’t create the contract extension culture, I’m just telling them what it is.

This is just like RB insisting Benton was a three star player in high school after I gave him three links showing 4 and 5 stars. Too much pride with these kids.

You’re the idiot. Every school is extending their coaches contracts, Odom at Missouri, Muschamp in each of the last two years at SC, the examples go on and on. LSU is doing nothing different than what everyone else is. The melt is hilarious, though.

This is the second time I've seen you say something like this in this thread.

"Everyone's doing it" and "this is the way things have always been done" are not good reasons to do something.

Yeah, we should let our coach’s contract dwindle and hand rival coaches the tools to take our recruits. That’d be a wonderful plan.

The strategic acumen of these guys gives me full confidence that they’ll be on the fast track to being assistant crew chief at the Circus Burger.

It’s one thing to mention and acknowledge
that other teams do this pointless exercise of extending a coach’s contract well before it ends, it’s another to actually defend the practice. Orgeron was under contract through the next 3 seasons. I have a very hard time believing his being under contract for 3 instead of 5 seasons would be some back breaker in recruiting.

Either way, in the grand scheme of things this doesn’t really move the neeedle for me. College programs extend, terminate, buyout and/or settle buyouts for contracts like a bodily function. A 2 year extension with no major increase in a buyout won’t really have much impact on our future ability to get out of his contract early if needed. It’s also not some kind of critical no-brainer move for recruiting where failing to do so would sink our ship. shite we already cleaned up in the early period without extending him.

Give him 3yrs $4m a year contract with the ability to fire him for lack of winning at anytime, no buyout. I think after 3yrs we will know the truth on CEO, if he is gonna be here long term or he needs to go.

It's a bad look to have a guy finish a season in the top 10 and still be one of the lower paid coaches in his conference

Isn't LSU's coaching staff like the second highest paid coaching staff in the SEC?

I thought paying O on the low side was the selling point?

A contract extension with a minimal buyout is meaningless.

There was no need to give him an extension. And, I'm not saying the right move is to get rid of him.

But, we just suffered through the pains of large buyouts. This is Alleva protecting Alleva.

If you're an LSU season ticket holder and you're pissed at this decision then do something about it.

The only way the BOS/Alleva/f king stop this bullshite is if the money dries up.

If you're pissed and you still buy tickets/donate then you're the problem.

Says the guy throwing his lot in with Alleva and the “he talks like us” crew.

Y’all are a real brain trust! The Duke lacrosse team was a group of rapists, right?

What’s your profession, Bozo?
