Are you one of the dumb fricks that think you start recruiting a player his senior year? Orgeron was working on Surtain for four years.

I’m not like some on here that know every detail of each coach and player’s contract, buyout, etc. in every sport.
Wasn’t Ed’s a 5 year contract though? It’s not like he’s a lame duck coach. The team had a good year and good ending. But he needs to show he can sustain and improve that year to year to warrant an extension imo. We still haven’t beaten, and rarely scored against, Alabama. We have to be able to do so to win a championship of any sort. Prove that is possible then he can have an extension.
But Alleva is a shitty AD so he’ll always do the opposite of the common sense move.

Read the thread. I think he has three years left, hard to recruit players that won’t graduate high school in 2-3 years when you only have a 3-year contract. It gets used against you in recruiting.

Do any of the down voters want our recruiting to slip? Do we want potential transfers to choose other programs? Do we want to retain ours coaching staff and attract new hires? All these good things come when there is program and head coaching stability. Unless a buyout is unreasonable, this is a thoughtful decision.

And he still couldn’t land him when he had more years remaining than he has now. It’s almost like it wasn’t a deciding factor.
It’s not that recruiting isn’t a consideration, it absolutely is. But it isn’t pressing at the moment. That’s all the original comment stated.

Wow. Totally not necessary

You can choose to live in your ignorance, I can’t help that. The reason coaches keep getting extensions, is for recruiting.

Would rather have waited another year to see him put together another 10 plus win season before we extended the contract.
Posted on 1/30/19 at 7:39 pm to The First Cut
Of course coaches want extensions and will use any reason they can to get one. The comment was about the current contract being at a point where it would realistically impact recruiting in a negative way. It isn’t, but you can continue melting and hurling insults if you would like.

Perfectly logical way of viewing it, but rationality is frowned upon by some folks in this thread.

Nothing against Orgeron but I don’t get the need for extensions after year 2 of a 5 year deal
Posted on 1/30/19 at 7:42 pm to MOT
Sure it is. Three years is not showing stability when he’s recruiting sophomores and juniors. He’ll have 1-2 years on his contract when they graduate. You can not like the reality, but it is the reality. This is all about showing stability for recruiting. If he fails, he’ll fired no matter if he has 1 or 10 years on his contract.

Good for Coach O. He deserves it.

I really don't care. An extension doesn't really mean anything. Raise his salary closer to average. Just don't frick with the buyout. If that increases as well then people have a right to be pissed.

Thank God, I was afraid another program was going to come take him from us.

Do you really think Mizzou is afraid someone will poach Barry Odom?
quote:
Odom’s new contract runs through 2024, a two-year extension, and raises his base pay to $3.05 million, a $600,000 raise. The former Missouri linebacker replaced Gary Pinkel in 2015 and has gone 19-18 in his first three seasons with two bowl appearances. Read more here: LINK

Barry Odom was extended following the 2018 season in which he had two years remaining on his original five year contract, fwiw.

LSU needs to quit doling out contract extensions for coaches that no one else wants.
Posted on 1/30/19 at 7:54 pm to MOT
Wrong. Two year extension is to 2024, original deal was through 2022.
