Locks us in a playoff spot at 10-2.

To get to 10-2 you would obviously have to be 4-1 heading into Ole Miss.

At that point you are probably 14 or 15.

Win there and you are ranked in the top ten with a favorable situation to make the playoffs from there including being able to lose again.

This is why we expanded the playoff.

Men. Nuss is good, really good. The defense is definitely improved and this team will get better weekly. I genuinely think this is a playoff team.

What if we go 9-3? Also, the AP/Coaches poll doesn’t matter. CFP rankings matter.

Losing to USC forces LSU to go 3-1 between A&M, Ole Moss, Bama, and OU.

If we won, we coulda split 2-2 and still got in.

The problem is that 10-2means 1 sec loss and probably a trip to Atlanta.

Lose there and we are 10-3 and very likely the first team left out.

Part of why losing to USC was so bad.

It’s honestly better for playoff chances to finish 10-2 but miss the SECCG

USC will need have a hell of a season and Big 10 championship appearance to make that loss good enough to move us in. Still a long shot

true, but the AP?coaches are usually in the ballpark of where the CFP puts teams. So it can be a somewhat realistic indicator.

Lol you really thought you did something impressive by analyzing the rankings after one week and determining that a 10-2 SEC team will make the playoff.

Everyone here could have told you that the first day the 12 team playoff was announced.

It would be really interesting if USC goes undefeated and beats ND to end the season. LSU could slide in at 11 and ND could drop a spot to 6. BK reunion in South Bend incoming

Our schedule sets us up for a nice run. Problem is I think we’re due for 2 SEC losses regardless. Opening loss puts us at 9-3

Wait so y'all are all about give us the tough season openers just win don't be a pussy. Yet for the SECCG you're like oh we want to miss it because it might make us miss the playoffs?

Not necessarily

Of you got Atlanta 10-2 ranked say 10 but lose dropping you to 10-3, your ranking is going to drop potentially behind a 10-2 team that didn’t have to play an extra game.

And remember there are 12 playoff teams but it isn’t necessarily the top 12 in the ranking.

It’s the big 5 conference champs so if a 3 loss BIG or ACC team pulls an upset in their CCG, they are automatically in potentially taking a spot from a 10-3 LSU team.

Also the highest ranked non power 5 school gets in and they may not be ranked in the top 12.

People are underestimating how bad a spot the loss to USC out LSU in.

It’s going to happen one year. There still may be 3-4 SEC teams in the playoff but the loser of the SECCG may not be one if them

For example

10-2 Ole Miss who lost to Oklahoma and Georgia but beat LSU
11-2 Bama who lost to LSU and Georgia 13-0
10-2 Tennessee
10-2 Texas

10-3 LSU who just lost to Georgia in the SECCG. Who don’t thinks left out of the playoff

In this new playoff, if a team loses in Atlanta and become 10-3 they are in. No way you can leave out the SEC runner up… otherwise there would absolutely be no point in actually doing the conference championship game.

You lack analytical skills if you think that will happen.

This team isn't going 10-2.
