From ‘79-‘81 was truly remarkable !
2-SEC Titles and an SEC Tournament Title.
Sweet 16, Elite 8 then a 31 win Final 4 Team.
There were mediocre seasons until ‘85 SEC Title, ‘86 Final 4, then ‘87 Elite 8. Then the excitement of the CJ and Shaq years were amazing. It’s hard to remember what it was like to be relevant almost every year. It seems almost impossible to ever get it back.

We had this with Wade.

It was our most consistent run since the late 80s early 90s

After year 1 we made every tourny and were easily in as a 6 seed in 2020 if the world didn’t turn pussy

The PMAC was about to get rocking for real. Mulkey took advantage of it.

The pmac had crowds and we were actually getting out of state fans to show up to road games.

And in 79 80 and 81 we lost to the champion each of those years.

We may have won a few national championships had Dale Brown been marginally competent.

Matters not, it was a totally different feel than anything we have ever seen since.
Those shoe town games in the superdome were major events we looked forward to. The Tiger dropping from the roof for Kentucky. The Bengal bard, Daddy Dale, they even had a song. Tigers to the Top. Totally different. We camped out for days on the PMAC concourse. Of course life in general was totally different back then.

The trend of early NBA entry kept LSU from consistent major success as they were not able to maintain consistent superstars like the true blue bloods.

That final 4 in 81 was our best chance at winning it all in my opinion.

Was at that elite 8 in NOLA versus Wichita St and Arkansas.

Rudy hurting his hand was a killer. When he hit it I looked at a buddy and said, this isn’t good.

LSU used to sell the student no show tickets during that time once the game started. People would line up outside the ticket office by the PMAC.

No

Wade had decent regular seasons, but couldn't touch the runs Brown made; or even what Brady did.

That gets tossed around a lot, but really, no. Look at who his teams lost to:

Michigan State with Magic Johnson
Louisville with Darrell Griffith and the McCray brothers
Indiana with Isaiah Thomas and Landon Turner
Indiana with Steve Alford (and Keith Smart)

Those teams had better players.
I will say 86, with Redden, Taylor, Williams and Blanton should have done better against Louisville just on how they were moving in the tournament, but remember that was actually an 11 seed..

The Shaq/Stanley/Vernell/CJ team was great, but the era had changed. 3 pt shot had taken hold. If you look at made shots, if they're all 2 pts (the way it had been for Dale's earlier teams), they beat Ga Tech. But Kenny Anderson negated CJ, and LSU had no answer for Dennis Scott.
That team would have won it all with the pre-3 pt rules.

The Astronaut wearing out Sam Bowie
Ethan Martin abusing Kyle Macy
Rudy Macklin dominating the glass and he was the leader of the team.
Cookie Man shutting down the inside defensively
Hi-C draining it from 25 feet out
Swat Mitchell(replacing Scales), starting as a True Freshman on a Final 4 Team.
3 Years of being the best team not to win the National Championship
