I'm not disappointed. But then I never expect much out of our basketball team. When you look at what the football and baseball teams have accomplished in the past 10-15 years, our basketball team is almost embarrassing.

LSU is a football school. A good basketball team would just be icing on the cake really. Oh, and

I pretty much agree. We need a new assistant coach. I won't pretend that I know enough about coaches to say who is good and who isn't. It would be a serious mistake to get rid of CJJ when he is recruiting as well as he is. I to believe we are heading in the right direction.

That said you are right again. A big disappointment so far, but hey the season isn't over. We could still win the SEC tournament and get in the NCAA tournament and let's hope at least the NIT.

What is wrong with this team? They play soft except for JOB. Does this come from the coach? I don't know. It just could be that this is their personality. Stringer is a nice guy, Hickey is a nice guy, Martin is a nice guy, Mickey is a nice guy. We need somebody nasty and tough who is not afraid to mix it up and COMPETE every minute they are out there!

And lord do we need a leader but there just doesn't seem to be one on this team.

Yeah, I'm puzzling about this too. We just can't be this bad defensively and at fundamental things like blocking out.

CJJ is going nowhere. If .....If, CJJ is teaching it the right way he's not getting the point across because it still looks like they have no clue how to slide step and rotate and communicate and the year is almost over.

I heard the new recruiter they got from UCLA on the radio earlier this year, and I think right now at least that's what he is. No way IMHO he's ready to fill a role as a technical assistant.

Coach Charlie to me seems more of an P.R. and administrative guy, I don't see him in that role either.

Don't know the staff dynamics, but either something is missing between preparation and execution or preparation is flawed. Either way, these kids are not getting coached up this year.

Too early to panic in that regard? Maybe, but sure looks like this year there is something missing in getting the best out of the team and one wonders if it will be a recurring issue even with the upcoming talent upgrade.

I think he's a solid recruiter. I'm not down on the guy. He needs time to bring in basketball players. He has athletes, not basketball players.
I don't think you can call someone a great or poor recruiter based off of one or two recruiting classes. The Mickey / Martin class seemed ready to sign with LSU but they were souring on Trent and needed a new coach to sign.

Where are all of the other "cJJ's guys?" On the bench... the entire game. Are they that bad or is cJJ just a stubborn coach? I think the latter and I wonder what could happen to the program if Mickey and JOB3 declare this year.

Having said that, he gets to about this point next year before we pass final judgement on him. Then, as is LSU tradition, we give him that extra year.

What's he going to do when Mickey and JOB both leave?

Who does he have coming in that will play defense?

He's "recruited" one quality class on paper, so far .. How does that make him a "great" recruiter ?

Just watching college basketball yesterday other than LSU was depressing

Top 25 teams just playing at a totally different level

I don't think that Mickey or JOB3 declaring would be an "as early as possible" thing. I think that they are both looking to be pro's and this year could be a good opportunity for both of them. Because they are playing monster minutes they are putting up some nice numbers as well as getting to show off for scouts.

I totally agree with your question about "who will play defense" if they leave.

Both of his classes are pretty solid and 2015 is off to a damn fine start with Simmons. I expect that class will finish top 5-10 nationally.

You don't think top 5-10 classes is elite recruiting? Then I don't know what to tell you but when we are competing with the kentuckys and Kansas's of the world for players and getting them I'd say that's pretty fricking good... If you want to dog JJs in game coaching fine but dogging his recruiting is just ignorant.

I'm actually not dogging anything. I think his recruiting is fine. I just don't like to use the terms elite or great. Using terms like that is what causes you to start a thread about disappointment.

I think JJ will do very well here. It's going to take time, but I think he needs to recruit more basketball players to blend in with athletes.

To answer your question. No I don't think it's elite recruiting. I think it's solid recruiting. Elite, is the schools you mentioned. Who have top 50 players who sit the bench.
