It's crazy that USC hasn't even made the CWS in over 20 years
You know what else started around that time? The format change to regional/super regional. They basically quit geting a bunch of soft teams that they had to beat at home to get to Omaha.

Hard to believe that FSU has never won it
I mean mathematically you would think they would have fell backwards into a title at some point. It seems almost impossible to make that many appearances and never bring it home.

feels like we've had more than 19........but seems like Stanford has been there my entire 52 years of existence.

What’s crazy is they didn’t have to pay Rod because of all the money he made in the trucking business so they could put every penny into baseball. Can you image a coach who just loves to coach. Never would happen today.

Cal St. Fullerton was one of those teams when I was younger that was in it every year it seemed like.

I filled in some of Pistol's missing numbers using Grok, so forgive me if there is an error in win totals.

USC is an Old School Baseball brand.
Texas is in a different conversation than USC is, conversion rating or not.

What happened to the juggernaut that use to be USC? Did they just stop caring about baseball? It's kinda crazy how good they use to be but have fallen off a cliff.

They were the only college that gave a shite about baseball in the 60s and 70s.

Where did you read in my post that this was a slight at Tennessee? It's an update to the total numbers because the season just ended you idiot. Judging by the down votes you got, you appear to be the childish one.

I have been a fan of LSU and the sport in general since the 80s. Amazing that in both football and baseball the power has shifted to the southeast.
Also intriguing how programs will elevate for 3-5 years but then regress to the peloton.
Easily arguable that since our years of dominance under Skip: South Carolina, Vandy, Virginia, North Carolina, Oregon State, Florida and more recently Arkansas and Tennessee programs have fielded more consistently competitive teams than us. In short, everybody gets to take a turn. I mean, Coastal Freaking Carolina won it all a few years ago!
Weird that teams like Rice, TCU, CA-Irvine, Arizona St, Fullerton, Oklahoma State seem to have fallen permanently off the pace. Florida has thrown Miami and FSU into the back seat in the state of Florida.

It's definitely changed. I remember when I started watching in the 80's and the west coast, Texas and Oklahoma State were frequent visitors. And there was a time when the regionals were truly REGIONAL. St. John's, UConn and Maine have all been to Omaha at least 5 times. So has Penn State, Western Michigan and Southern Illinois. Northern Colorado made 10 trips to Omaha!

Agreed - this was a CA, AZ, TX and Midwest sport for a LONG time. Teams like Wichita State, Creighton and even Minnesota used to be players on a national level. Still get a kick out of Maine and Ron Maestri’s UNO going go to Omaha back in the day. Don’t get a kick out of Stony Brook going tho…

They were on the radio some because I listened to lsu baseball on the radio sometimes before skip got here. It just was not real popular

LSU didn't even start caring about baseball until the late 80s, and we're still up there among the greats. It really shows how much Skip did to influence the college baseball landscape.
