LSUs current Team Batting Average is 270. There are 127 College baseball teams with a better batting average than LSU this year. How the hell is that possible?

That’s pretty damn atrocious for a “premier” college baseball team.

We don't have a hitting coach we're paying.

That said they have hit the ball much better in conference play relative to overall stats.

t-188th in OBP at .356
t-106th in SLG% at .411
t-156th in stolen bases with 48
Somehow still t-64th in runs per game with 6.6. I don't even know how that is possible given the other stats. I guess the bright side is at least we're good at getting the most out of little production.

The team trots our 6 LH hitters every night, most nights 7. They gave one legit RH bat. That’s how

COACH PAUL MAINIERI AND CREW DA' FOO!!!

Obviously that's not a good thing, but can you tell me what their ranking has been in years past? Comparing an SEC team BA to a WCC or Sunbelt team BA is really not apples to apples
ETA: After reading JML's reply, I'd say being in 4th/5th place in the SEC in those categories is not bad, especially considering the offensive numbers State & Vandy are putting up this year. I'd still like to see LSU's rankings from past years to compare

I've been stumped by it for a while. We're hitting fewer doubles than normal. I'm guessing it's the slight uptick in HRs and the sac flies that are keeping the run scoring up. We do score guys from third with less than 2 outs at a very prolific rate, but some of those are on regular ground outs that aren't sacrifices.
Also, there is a small amount of downward influence on the batting average from our lack of aggressiveness in stealing bases. We aren't trying to steal very much, so we aren't running into as many outs. So all of those outs are coming at the plate. I imagine it's minimal, but it's there.
We also have a hitting coach that sucks.

46th in runs scored, a stat that matters more

I don't know what the ranking is, but if the average doesn't pick up by at least .013 (which would put it equal with last year), it would be the worst since 2007, which was .256.
As it stands (and this won't change unless we go on an absolute tear), Ochinko is on pace to have the 2nd and 3rd worst batting average seasons of any hitting coach under Mainieri.

And thats the comparisons that i think matter much more than national ranking of statistics. If this is on pace to be a lower BA than even the dead bat era of a few yrs ago that's obviously not a good sign.
But also, have the HR/slugging numbers gone up significantly? We hated the "small ball", small player, no power/high avg lineups we had a few yrs ago too. We were begging for some lower avg, better power hitters just a few yrs ago

Idk. Maybe if you stopped looking at BA in a vacuum you would understand it. Only 4 of those 127 face SEC pitching week in and out

With stats like that, why are they 15-12?
Posted on 5/14/19 at 3:17 pm to LSUJML
While we aren't exactly a great hitting team, I would say that with some decent pitching our hitting would be more than good enough.
Posted on 5/14/19 at 3:18 pm to ProjectP2294
Yikes, that is terrible. Ochinko cant survive this
