so im just wondering how things are going with the new coach and what changes were made or are being made this season?

how are your expectations for this year and have they dont anything or not done anything you thought they should have?

Omaha caliber lineup and fielding

Pitching while good is somewhat of an unknown.

Realistically we are an omaha hopeful, but not really sure if we're top championship type level.

I'm as excited as the next guy. But, if I'm being honest, I need to see how the pitching shakes out. I think we can run several different lineups out there that will score runs and play just fine defensively. We may just flat outscore everybody and let guys throw a few innings at a time.

Checkout my post about it my friend. Team has all the talent in the world, if we can put everything together we could be very good.

The lineup will be strong and lots of competition in play for a number of positions.
Offensively they will be able to hit with anyone.

Key will be pitching. Finding the three weekend starters and filling in bullpen around them. That will determine how far they go.

What happened with Maurice Hampton? Did he transfer out?

The SEC is as good as ever. People are excited which is understandable, but they also need to pull back some expectations for 2022. We will still be a middle of the pack team IMO. That has to do with Catcher and front line pitching. Good pitching beats good hitting so I'm concerned about how many Fridays we can win.

Jay has been great. He's very active. He's very positive. The players are responding well. The practices having very little down time and are well-run. I'll be interested to see how he approaches in-game decisions. Does he like to steal? Bunt? H&R? When does he pull a starter? When does he start getting someone loose?

RF and DH are the only wide open offensive/defensive spots. I don't think anyone is close to outplaying Milazzo based on what I've seen and read. Berry, Thompson, Doughty, Morgan are or IFs. Dugas and Crews will be in LF and CF respectively. Pitching is almost a complete unknown. Coleman/Fontenot/Ryz/Floyd being looked at for the weekend with a couple others.

Rumor has it that the new coach is letting his girlfriend's kids pitch a few innings in scrimmages to make the hitting stats look better.

He left about a month into the season last year because he had about half the PAs than any other "backup" OF and didn't like being looked past so easily.

I agree. I think offensively we will be in the top of SEC. Pitching is really going to be the biggest factor on where we end up.

I haven't kept up enough but is Crews a lock for CF instead of playing in RF?

IMO I think we are going to see a lot of Merrifield at 3rd base.

If Gio wins out, than Crews will stay at RF. If Drost wins out, Crews will move to CF and Drost to RF.

I actually think we will see more Merrifield at 3B than Berry. Berry will move to DH when Merrifield is in.

It's the only place he's been practicing.

That would put Berry at DH. I could see that, too. would drop the open spot to just one. Pretty amazing considering where we were last year.

I will add that we may have some pretty good leadership that can overcome the talent gap to other teams even in terms of pitching. Some of Skip's "best" teams weren't nearly as talented as their counterparts. I'll say that on paper, we should be middle of the pack, but I honestly think that's the floor.

Pitching is the unknown. Surely we can find 9 decent hitters from the talent we have.
I wish someone would take the responsibility of communicating as in the roster and when practices will be held. That’s lacking a lot this year

I think it will depend on the lineup/matchups. But I could see him there quite a bit.

Merrifield could be the primary back up at 3rd and 2nd while also the being either 1 or 2 at DH.

Pitching is going to hinge on Reyzelman's ability to get through a line up 3 times. Hilliard can continue to hold down Sundays and really help there. We have a bunch of guys that could get one or two times through a line up, but we need a horse that reduce the number of decisions that need to made on a given weekend.

LSU should put up a lot of runs. I worry about pitching but I’m excited for this team and Johnson has done nothing but impress me since he’s been on campus. It’ll be a fun team. Probably be in a super I hope

Agreed, stay healthy and have some pitchers step up IRT development, and the additive positive impacts of transfers to the staff. Lot of potential.
