As someone who's dealt with LSU-run vs. NCAA-run baseball events, I can promise you this is not the case. This is 100% up to the whims of a nerd wearing an NCAA polo.

At least we have someone with facts here.

The NCAA must have really wanted to see Skenes pitch since LSU/Kentucky got delayed several hours with no rain on a day Skenes happened to be pitching.

You truly think that Jay Johnson makes the call to hault a game? Not the SEC. Not fhe Crew. Not the NCAA.

I would bet money he has more of a say so than you think

NCAA needs to hire some actual weather nerds.

The weather monitor for the tournament is designated by the host school, whose interests do you think influences their input?

Just pour yourself a cold drink and watch Squeeze Play until the Tigers come on.

It's not the rain...it's the lightening monitor

Jay should just pick to play the night game if he wants night games so bad. The 2/3 seeds would be starting right now and LSU could play at 7 pm.

It's not that he wants a night game so bad. It's that he doesn't want to have an in-game delay, if at all possible. He'd rather start the game 3 hours later and be more assured the risk of an in-game delay is minimal than start on time and hope it doesn't rain IF there is a reasonable chance of rain in the forecast during the game.

This situation is EXACTLY why he choses to play the first game in the regional. If LSU were playing the second game there is a higher risk of their game being bumped back a day. Playing in the first game gives Jay more leeway to navigate around potential delays and lessen the risk of starting a pitcher, only to have a 1 hour rain delay in the 3rd inning, costing him his starting pitcher for the rest of the game.

If LSU had terrible starting pitching and were set to face a dominant pitcher Jay would be pushing for the game to start with the hope rain would come and knock out the opponent's starter early.

Fans don't like it because they just want to watch the game. But Jay doesn't care what the fans think. He's going to do what is necessary to put the team in the best spot to win.

The conversation is usually the groundskeeper/Ops Director using very expensive weather data to make their case and the NCAA rep shrugging their shoulders and pointing at tv slots

If it was delayed due to lightening being detected there would be three beat writers giving us updates each time the clock had to be reset.
