Besides quitting what could Tate do that would win you over?

Looking at his bio:

Research
Tate’s research concentrates in four areas: (1) human capital development in STEM fields; (2) epidemiological models and geospatial applications with a focus on adolescent and child development and health outcomes; (3) social development of youth in the context of metropolitan communities; and (4) stratification.

These first 3 topics are big areas of concern in Louisiana. We have a poorly educated workforce, and many areas with high instances of poverty. STEM careers are highly in demand, and we need people from this state equipped to fill them. In my opinion, if he can focus on those first three topics with regards to higher education in Louisiana, it will go a long way to building up this state.

But Dardenne is a JBE political plant!!!

Careful what you wish for, fellas

While you’re running down a guy who loves LSU more than 99% of this board, LSU goes and hires a race pimp. Outstanding work by the board. Every single one of them should be removed ASAP by the next gov.

And that is the problem with LSU. Politicians run the school. Create a shared governance model where you have political interests, faculty interest, matched with student interest and you will have a mixture ripe for a high performing academic model

Agreed I love Louisiana and want it to thrive and LSU in so many different ways impacts the daily life of Louisiana.

I hope Tate grows the stature of the universities within the system. We will see what happens. The hiring of the president is potentially the longest lasting impact the board can do-it changes the education of the workforce, it changes healthcare, it can impact our judicial system (law school).

I hope the board of supervisors took that responsibility seriously

The long term change you want won't be done by a mere single individual, LSU president. Lousiana has more 4 Yr colleges than the state of Florida. That's fricking insane. A lot of fat has to be cut but will never be cut.

Lousiana citizens are also super complacent they continuously vote for shite head reps and governors that aren't doing shite.

It's way to far gone for anything to happen.

It's a dark blue fiscal state and a ruby red conservative state at the same time.

It needs to attract other businesses to drive the economy but won't do shite.

Tate won't be able to fix that by himself. It will take at least 3 governors all on the same page and a House/Senate that actually gives a frick about the state instead of hand outs. Not happening.

Another thought is that having someone like Tate as President of the Flagship could allow for real change to happen in state's university system as a whole.

A longstanding debate has been that Louisiana has far more universities than it not only needs but can afford. Maybe, just maybe, his sociological expertise could actually be applied to consolidation of universities that have their own rich traditions yet have continually underdelivered. Here, representation goes a long way.

Of course, the doom and gloom crowd would say that he'll just push to turn all of Tech's assets over to Grambling.
