Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, the whole point of this hypothetical question is to demonstrate the flaws in the current playoff system.

So now that LSU has beaten Bama, let's say they finish the regular season 12-0.

In that case, why shouldn't LSU do the same exact thing that NFL teams do when they have a first-round bye locked up, and play nothing but backups and freshmen in the SECCG?

Why risk it? If the playoff committee accounts for things like Tua having a boo-boo, surely they'd have to acknowledge the fact that LSU didn't play their best players.

What's the downside here? You don't get an SEC championship trophy? I'm sure that really upset Bama in 2017

And don't forget, a bonus for losing to a 1 loss GA is that it would essentially lock Bama out of the playoffs.

Because we would have a loss against a team that got beat by the Cocks at home and most likely have a second loss to Aubie. No thanks.

Because this isn't the NFL, and we don't have anything locked up. We'll have to beat the Dawgs in Atlanta to secure a playoff spot, it's not like we're Bama.

Georgia doesn’t have the offense to hang with LSU. It would be another 2011 beatdown.

That’s if Georgia even makes it. Auburn will beat Georgia in Jordan Hare and A&M could very well beat Georgia the next week. A&M has their backs against the wall and will want a big win to salvage their season.

LSU v Florida will probably sneak up on people and happen.

Well considering the coaches have a bonus for winning the SEC, this wont happen

You're going to get a lot of downvotes because pulling starters is distasteful, but the championship game format really is a problem for CFB as participating in the game is a liability more than anything at this point

I disagree. If we're undefeated going into the SECCG, a loss doesn't knock us out.

maybe we don't want to have to play you twice? we're planning on eliminating you and winning the SEC, boss.

Giving your bed-shitting Dawgs a free shot at the CFP and a SEC trophy? No, moron, just no. Take your L's with some dignity.

Winning the SEC is just as big as winning the NC to some folks.

I can agree with that, but I can never feel safe about getting in with a loss until it actually happens. Hopefully we win out and get the #1 seed, and we don't have to worry.

Yes, a loss without playing starters. Why should the committee consider things like injuries to star players, but not when a team intentionally decides not to play starters (to avoid injury risk, for example)

The SEC Championship is honestly more meaningful than whatever bowl/playoff system is in place at the time.

An SEC championship is special and as proven already is harder to acquire than an national championship.

Are you already setting up the excuses in your mind? "LSU played their starters in the SECCG." is a pretty lousy excuse even by UGA standards.
