The SEC Championship is honestly more meaningful than whatever bowl/playoff system is in place at the time.

You don't actually believe this do you?

Go ask Georgia which trophy they'd prefer from 2017.

Are you already setting up the excuses in your mind? "LSU played their starters in the SECCG." is a pretty lousy excuse even by UGA standards.

Ah see. This is why I started my OP with a disclaimer about not getting your panties in a wad. Clearly yours are.

My question has nothing to do with UGA. And I am not seriously suggesting that LSU bench it’s starters. My OP is about the playoff system being flawed.

Someone give me a legit answer. Don’t say that a 12-0 LSU that has beaten 3 top-10 teams wouldn’t already be a lock for the playoff. What’s the point of trying to win yet another tough game?

Just effectively tell the playoff committee that your regular season speaks for itself, and they will get their freshmen some experience in Atlanta.

The playoff committee was designed to account for things exactly like this (although it’s an admittedly extreme example)

this is what pisses me off...you might have a 1 loss Oklahoma and a 1 loss Oregon team winning their conference in their conference championship but may have a 1 loss Bama team who not only didn’t win their division or play for the SEC championship Placed in the 4th slot just becuz 1) they lost to #1 LSU by 5 points 2) they recruit better than any other team according to the media and 3) becuz it’s BAMA.....this week all you heard was Bama HAD TO BEAT LSU or else they were out... now all you are hearing is BAMA HAS TO WIN THEIR REMAINING GAMES TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS... frick BAMA....frick THIS BIAS shite and frick MULLIGANGATE...

Because it is too fun to beat UGA and to win the SEC Championship outright.

The SEC championship means a lot to the players and coaches. No way they would try to slack that game off just to rest up for a potential playoff game. They want that championship badly.

Team goals tend to follow a set of events. Win your matchup. Win the game. Win the division. Win the SEC. Win the CFP. Those are things that happen in chronological order and somewhat depend on the previous goals being met in order to reach the next one. That's how they'll view it.

Maybe we don’t want to be a 4 seed playing in Phoenix against Ohio State in the first round. Instead could be a 1 seed playing again in Atlanta against Clemson.

Plus we recruit against Georgia.

I do, and i still think Georgia had the best season that year.

Winning the SEC is a purely objective feat. Undeniable and indisputable unlike any national postseason.

Plus they won an amazing bowl game against the Heisman winner.
