re: LSU and Clemson should mutually agree to cancel next year’s opener

So you really think LSU's opening game at Clemson factored in to their poor team performance over the rest of this season?
How does opening up with a road win against a respected P4 opponent impair that team's standing in postseason activity?

The P4 conferences need to copy what basketball does and schedule league-wide challenges.
One year the SEC and ACC could match up early in the season, along with the Big Ten playing the Big 12. They could rotate to playing another P4 conference the next season and so on.
The pairings could be set the same way basketball does, so Ohio State doesn't get Mississippi State, etc. Football games don't need to be scheduled 10 years in advance like they're doing now. You could base the matchups off the previous season's finishes within each conference.
Based on that, LSU would play Nebraska from the Big Ten, Louisville from ACC or Cincinnati from Big 12. (Whiny Texas would be matched against Michigan, Pitt or Arizona).
Just an idea.

Wrong Texas horrible loss to UF is what cost them a playoff birth.

I don't care about the regular season. Only the playoffs matter. Schedule all cupcakes during the regular season.

Nope. Just beat Clemson like we always seem to do and let the rest of the season play out.

Texas losing to Florida kept them out
Get it right
Get it right

- If Oklahoma had not beaten Michigan non-conference, I don’t know that they are in the CFP.
- Vandy and BYU are on the outside looking in at least partially because their non-conference schedule was weak. If you flipped Vandy and Oklahoma’s non-conference schedules, Vandy is probably in and Oklahoma is out.
- The only reason Miami is even in the conversation is their win over ND.
- Michigan and USC lost their tough OOC games, but they wouldn’t be in the CFP at 10-2 if they had played cupcakes instead. Their tough games gave them a chance to earn a spot in the CFP. Had they won, Michigan and USC would be in the CFP instead of Oklahoma and USC.
There is absolutely risk in scheduling tough non-conference opponents, but there is also potential reward. Everyone seems to be hyper-focused on the risk and not seeing the other side of the equation.

There are three reasons other than the Ohio State loss to decline a playoff offer to Texas
You need to add needing OT to beat bad Miss St and Kentucky teams to that list. Texas was great in Texas, but awful on the road.

Or how about we take the belt to their arse for the third straight time.
Their one win against us is a sham thanks to Les being a full blown retard.
Lane >>>>> Dabo
Our roster will be in a better spot so let’s kick the shite out of them. This year was only close because BK and being on the road

Losers fear competition. Real competitors embrace it. Who wants a playoff spot secured by meaningless wins? Pride comes from achieving something worth having.
Drumming the Manhattan School for the Blind in Tiger Stadium doesn’t inspire anything.
You want to know what you’re made of?
Face real competition.
But what do you care? You’re likely halfway home by halftime anyway.

But if you get punished by the CFP for losing it even if it’s close, there’s no advantage to playing it
Texas isn’t in the playoffs because they are not good enough to win it. If they beat a cupcake instead of OSU, and were 10-2, they’d be in the playoffs but eliminated early. I guess that makes a difference to you; it doesn’t to me. You can look at that Texas team and plainly see they are no threat to win a natty; it doesn’t matter who they opened with.

The Tigers should be ready, willing and able to face anyone at any time. Why are some afraid to play a team that has historically been good.

Losing to Florida is what kept them out of the CFP.

Just look at Ohio State’s schedule.
You can add ND to that easy yearly schedule as well.

frick that.. not letting them off the hook breaking in a new QB, etc. Got Lane now.. we ridin'

Texas is being keep out because they lost to Florida.

Strength of schedule does not factor in to decision making any more. It is based on the won loss record. It is easier to evaluate a didactic won loss record. If a team lost three games to top 5 teams in overtime games by a field goal in each game, would that not level the playing field to some extent?
Next season LSU has 9 SEC teams plus Clemson. 10 real games and two cupcakes. I can understand fans wanting to watch a competitive game but could we please open with a cupcake to get the first game kinks out. I have read that the teams most significant improvement comes after the opener. The second game of the season is supposed to be much better than the first as far as execution. At least that is what I have read.

Not a chance. Think of the hype and fans. Home opener much better with the likes of Clemson instead of Southern McNeese, Northwestern, Southeastern etc.

I can agree that they are not giving Texas credit for the OSU game, however Texas getting embarrassed by Florida is what’s keeping them out.
