To be fair Roberts was here for two years he just couldn't spell his own name so he wasn't eligible the first one.
People don't care for Ben because of how he ended that season. While it was good overall statistically, he whined to refs the entire end of the season when they didnt call it like an international game (you really had to be at the game to understand, he whined ALOT), he couldn't keep eligible for awards because he didn't go to class and then Johnny bailed on an NIT bid when he realized Ben wasnt available at the end of the season.
The last impression everyone had of him was him essentially quitting on everyone. That's not endearing in anyway. You shouldn't be surprised when People don't remember him fondly. He acted like a baby his whole time here and then bolted before the season was even over.
I mean aside from his own personal stats, what am I supposed to to cheer about?

This is my favorite anti Simmons argument “he had NBA talent around him”. So now it’s a players responsibility to get the entire team ready, in other words Simmons had coaching responsibilities too. Grey didn’t get the minutes that a future NBA player should get and you’re blaming Simmons instead of Jones for it. Quarterman didn’t put up future NBA numbers but that’s on Simmons not Jones as well. Simmons season here wasn’t the only time Jones missed the tourney with multiple NBA players on the roster, in fact he missed the tourney ever year except one with multiple NBA players on the roster. I guess Leonard Fournette sucked because he couldn’t elevate his teams to their projected levels as well. Lol Rant fans you gotta love the comedy.

yeah it was sad seeing Ben have one of the most productive freshman seasons in sec history. maybe if he had THE greatest freshman season in sec he could get some respect.

Lol another stupid narrative, like Simmons is the only basketball player that didn’t go to class. I’ve seen Stanley Roberts called a great story for failing and using drugs while Simmons is bashed for doing nothing but playing at an elite level while here.

What’s funny about your statement is that he did lol. It’s been covered and commented on by teammates that he and Quarterman didn’t like each other and that Quaterman wouldn’t give the ball up at times. If anyone saw the Oklahoma game it’s right there, Quaterman wouldn’t let Simmons touch the ball for the final 4+ minutes. We know Quaterman has character issues. He used to hang with the M&M boys thought he was on their level and wasn’t about to let Simmons steal his shine. All of this plus Simmons behavior comes back to Jones not having any control over his team. Simmons is the only example I’ve seen on the Rant where our fans have blamed a player over a coach.
