She didn't just up and decide to write this article based in independent investigative journalism, this is the administration's way of floating an excuse.

Shut down the university. Students need to show some balls.

To the poster that said this has nothing to do with King or Alleva- This has everything to do with them !! They will be the leadership that will be addressing every concern and issued raised in this article. For those of us who bleed purple and gold and cherish the tradition of LSU and Mike the Tiger, It is not very comforting knowing that these two unfortunately will be in charge. !!! Here's hoping that the BOD will have enough courage and enough purple and gold blood to protect our traditions.

Read the articles she's written, she's spoon fed information from the current LSU administration. That's exactly what this is, a way for the administration to float an idea to the public.
Not to mention her sources seem to be top notch. She's basically interviewed liberal animal rights groups to comment on whether LSU would be able to get another tiger.

Does PETA know there is a tiger at the gas station like 10 miles down the road? Maybe their efforts would be better directed that way
Yes, PETA and that group has been fighting in court over that for years.

Yeah. She should have interviewed some conservative animal rights groups for balance.

Or maybe interview a zoo or another group that actually acquires similar animals....

This article has absolutely nothing to do with King or any of the LSU administration. All it says is that finding a tiger can be difficult and the place they used to get tigers from has been shut down.
OP is an idiot and so is everyone reading his title and freaking out. Some of you should try reading th articles linked and forming your own opinions for once...
Why don't you read the title of the thread......"LSU Administration may decide NOT to continue Mike the Tiger tradition"
I am suggesting that the administration may have already decided NOT to replace Mike VI and are using this article to deflect the decision toward other excuses. This is how politicians usually manipulate us........they run this stuff up the flag pole to see if we notice.

LSU has had a live tiger for decades on top of decades.
The habitat now is one of the best in the country.
If this happens, even when the powers that be leave LSU, (retire, are interested in another school) it would forever follow them around.
To simply hide behind a watered down excuse such as "we can't find a replacement" is ludicrous.
I am not suggesting that we find a new tiger now. Mike is doing very well and who knows, perhaps his cancer could go into remission. Who knows.
But at the same time, to say "no" because of PETA or some group along those lines, is ridiculous.
PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and while I can certainly stand behind that (the ethical treatment), nothing about how Mike is cared for or lives is unethical. Nothing.
He has medical care that is second to none, a habitat, as I mentioned earlier, is among the best in the country.
There is nothing unethical about how he is treated or cared for.
If, and this is a big if, this tradition is discontinued, you can expect big donors to stop putting $$$ into the college/athletic department and as I stated earlier, it will follow all those who "ok it" around forever.
It would be a huge business mistake, especially considering that LSU already has the veterinary team and habit in place, right now. It would just be stupid not to continue with it.

Read the OP, then skipped to the bottom, This is total BS, but it reflects our nations new values sadly, My hope is LSU can acquire one more Tiger after this Mike. If these trends continue, he would be the last one.

Maybe LSU could get one of these Tigers in Wylie TX about 10 mi from my house. I think the $2M cage would be a little upgrade.

Our administration is so idiotic that they can't foresee the fallout from this. You will literally have alumni refusing to give one more cent if they don't carry on this tradition. I guess there wasn't any lesson learned when they tried to do away with RV spots.

Mike the tiger is treated beyond ethically, he gets preferential treatment. No idea why PETA is up in arms.

These LSU administrators are Killing out Traditions !! We really need to wake up an protest this wacky thinking
The Crazy Parking Fees
The Tailgating
The Band
The Songs the Band can Play
The "Mike" Tiger
What's next ?? Ban The term "Fighting' Tigers" because it had to do with the Civil War ?? Or maybe a increase in "Tradition fees" so the tiger band can (continue) make a road trip ?? How about charge a "On Campus Fee" on game day, so they can make Money off the Tailgaters with no ticket to the game !! That sounds JUST LIKE LSU these days. Sad, soon Sad.
