I was feeling pretty pessimistic about our chances of making the finals after we lost that Monday game to Wake.

I was feeling pretty optimistic about our chances any time the batting lineup flipped to Crews, White, and Morgan.

Having to play 3 SEC teams (UK, UTenn, and UF) from the Supers on was a challenge. After losing to Wake, I knew someone would have to pull a Caleb Gilbert for us to have a chance.

Well, we got about five Caleb Gilbert's in Omaha. Ty, Hurd, Ack, Herring, and Cooper all elevated their games.

And I personally appreciated Jobert putting the icing on the cake in the T9 in G3 vs UF. Nice touch.

You hear coaches, players, fans, etc always talk about peaking at the right time. Safe to say LSU's pitching staff embodied that maybe more than any team I can remember.

Floyd had been solid, but not great, for most of the season. He started pitching better at the end of the regular season, but his NCAA Tournament (pre-CWS) wasn't remarkable. One, decent, rain shortened start vs. OSU, followed by a start vs. Kentucky where he didn't have good stuff and had to battle to hang in. Then he gets to the CWS and becomes almost as dominant as Skenes.

Hurd was kind of in the same boat. He wasn't very good for most of the season. He stared to come around late, then in the SEC, then pitched well vs. OSU. He then gets to the CWS and for the first time all season looks like a top of the rotation starter.

Herring and Akenhausen turn in the best performances of their careers in Omaha. Cooper becomes a shutdown "closer". Basically every one of those guys saved their absolute best for last at a time LSU had to have their absolute best. Because of the format that is essentially what you have to have to win the CWS. A few great pitching performances can win a regional and super regional. You have to have more in Omaha

I honestly didn't think it would last this long. My expectations were mid-July, around Media Days. But they still haven't cleared the Score Board from this game, and we've made it this far, so why not?

For whatever reason people forgot how Cooper was really good down the stretch in 2022. I was not surprised one bit. He will definitely be missed all 260 lb rock star hair cut and all.

All postseason I kept wishing for an easy blowout win. They saved their best game for the championship game. That was really awesome.

There was plenty of "OMG Cooper again? Why does Jay keep trotting him out?" It's almost like Jay knows what he's doing.

In my opinion he was the CWS MOP not Skenes.

Don't wanna see these HRs get overlooked. Down 4-6 in the T9 in G3 vs OM with 2 outs.

Travinski Pinch Hit HR

It was nice to return the sweep-favor to OM after '22.

You can definitely make that argument. I'm pretty sure he had the most appearances in Omaha, and made the most of each one.

Jobert.

Without him we lose by 21 in G2 and nobody beats us by 21 runs in Omaha. And in G3, without his late inning heroics we only win 16-4. Maybe it's just me but 18-4 sounds a whole lot better than 16-4.

Sp elevated their game most across the season?

I'll roll with Thatcher Hurd on the mound, Jobert in the field, and Milazzo at the plate.

Hurd had his struggles but by season's end he was dealing. In G3 vs UF, gave up 2 hits to start the game; none afterwards.

Jobert had some really bad OF miscues but was a solid OF by the end.

And Milazxo had batted .186, .135, .227 before batting .289 this year.
