I've stayed on both Hotel ZaZa locations (Memorial City and Museum area) and they are great. Super nice with really big rooms. If one of those works, take it.

Hotel Icon. Very nice hotel in old bank building. Walking distance to lots of bars and places to eat. Also has a bar downstairs with solid restaurant. Cheaper than Zaza and not far from Rice. Zaza is very nice and close but you’re going to pay a good bit more. Zaza is going to be farther from places to hang out outside of the game.

Sure but why not arrange to play a decent brand in Houston so the LSU fans are willing to pay the cost to travel?
LSU-Texas Tech in NRG would have been dang near sold out. There’s a lot of Tech fans around Houston. Shoot, even UH would have been mildly interesting compared to rice. UH did knock off OU at NRG a few years back.

Well I’m pumped to go to this game even if no one else is

Woody is rolling his eyes on this game no doubt. We won’t be seeing this happen again. See he actually has a pulse on Tiger nation and is already working games of interest that we would like to see happen.

Agreed. Sick of the recruiting argument as an excuse to take road trips to Houston to play games that should be being played in Baton Rouge. No recruit cares if they see LSU play at a neutral site, they want to experience Death Valley.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this allow recruits in the Houston and surrounding area a chance to see LSU and all its staff/players as an unofficial visit? So its basically a free chance for Coach O to get in front of recruits. I think that's a good thing.

Michigan isn’t coming to Baton Rouge I can almost guarantee that. We have to compromise. Maybe get another Lambeau game or Soldier Field.

What about the Detroit Silverdome?

quote:Yeah, I have stayed there before when we stayed in Houston and commuted to College Station. I liked Hotel Icon and would stay there again. I have been going to the LSU - Rice games in Houston since the 1960's when I was a child. The only reason I may not go to this one is that the Saints are playing in Vegas that weekend and we were planning to go there. 50% / 50% at this point.
Hotel Icon.

LSU is a national brand that recruits Houston on the reg. No recruit is coming to LSU from Houston is going to say, ‘The moment I knew I wanted to be a Tiger was watching LSU beat a garbage 0-12 Rice team’.

Of course not, but what does it hurt to get an extra chance for free face time? Your point was that the recruits want to experience Death Valley, but they still will and they'll get an extra chance to see O and the team. There's just not a lot of downsides.

All I gotta say is I hope you don't plan you hotel based on the thought that you can ride the Metro Rail to the game.
We tried that for the Wisconsin game. The rail stopped in front of us, the doors opened and it looked liked sardines sitting in a can. Couldn't even fit one more person standing in there.

Stay downtown then take the Metro rail. Or park your vehicle in a downtown garage for cheaper $$$ then take the Metro rail. I recommend the alley theater garage in downtown.
