Welp. Disappointing, especially since this was a winnable game. I wish we could have gotten over the hump to another Final Four, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
It was a fun season but this team could never quite put it all together and always felt shaky and flawed, at least as far as winning a national championship. And yes, with CKM it is great to have a program where that is the expectation every year.
Not gonna get into player evaluation or who may be coming from the portal but with our four five star recruits coming aboard, next season may be the most “Mulkey” team yet as far as depth and solidness.
Our three transfer guards, Day-Wilson, Gilbert, and Sheppard all had their moments but also made plenty mistakes. I appreciate their effort but as someone who watched every second of LSU WBB, I’d have to say they were collectively more of a liability than an asset. Not by much, mind you, it was close. But that would be my assessment.
Listen for the name Serah Williams from the transfer portal. If Kim can outfight Gino and UConn for her, along with what we’ve got coming back and coming in, we likely hang another NC banner in 2026.
Always disappointing to fall short, but one NC and two Elite Eights in three seasons ain’t bad at all.

Gilbert jacked off the game for LSU. FJ was hot to end the game & Gilbert forced shots over and over. Hell, look at the end of the 3rd when MW called for the ball & Gilbert ignored her and forced a bad play.
Flau'jae is crazy athletic when she is going off like that. I wish she could have taken over sooner.

LSU 10/12
UCLA 20/28
Kiki Rice of UCLA was 6/6 down the stretch
Dean Smith once said if you make more FTs than your opponents takes you will win
LSU 8/10
UCLA 10/18
Hardly the huge gap you're trying to make it out to be.

Hard to do anymore than she did with Gilbert forcing shots. Mulkey should've benched her after the ending of the 3rd qtr.
I was surprised she didn't bench her.

This is how you fix a game.

I don't know how she could justify Gilbert being in the game in the 4th

She should be back. I don't see any reason to go pro when it comes to women unless you just hate college. She already has endorsements and has stated she loves college. She's a rockstar here. Why leave? She once said she loves college so much she wish she could have as many years as they would allow her. The only thing that concerns me is her mom who is also her manager said not so fast.
Everyone said the exact same thing as to why they thought Angel Reese would return for a fifth year. I doubt these women read the Rant and say: “Hey! Somebody on the Rant said I should come back! Makes sense!” Like Reese, FJ would make millions if she left. She doesn’t “need” her final year of college.
That said, I think FJ returns for 2025-26.

It wasn't just Gilbert. LSU got very little bench support in this game.
UCLA Bench had 22 pts, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 7 rebounds. LSU had 6 pts, 0 assists, 0 steals, and 5 rebounds from their bench

FJ will make bank if she stays, too. She's not hurting....

Most surprising stat:
Points in the paint
LSU - 26
UCLA - 16

We lost because we played terrible. One of our worst games if not the worst game this year. And CKM needs to recruit a true point and some consistent shooters. LSU has to be more balanced on offense and be able to shoot the 3 consistently. Just what it looks like to me.

In theory yes. Practically speaking, no. UCLA is just bigger, faster and more talented. And they were shooting lights out most of the game, while the Tigers were laying down enough bricks to build the Pitti Palace.
Only advantage I saw for LSU was that CKM was decidedly the aesthetic choice over the UCLA coach.

quote:bigger? Yeah. And they shot better from three. That was about it. They aren't more talented or faster. They just played better over 4 quarters than we did today.
UCLA is just bigger, faster and more talented.

...and in the LA tv market. LSU never had a prayer in this. NCAA and ABC had to have UCLA in the Final 4

Coaching mistake leaving Gilbert in the game. She’s a ball hog and a turnover machine!! Please transfer

There’s always excuses for losing this game but UCLA had the better team, period.
