Lately #7 has been a cursed number… what it represents is nothing but a “look at me” mentality and this mentality has no place in football (the ultimate team sport). Giving it to an offensive lineman is a genius move by Kelly and basically relegates it to nothing more than a team captains patch without getting rid of the stupid “tradition” all together.

It’s pretty easy to see what BK is doing. 7 has lost its cause since Fournette. It’s been all about egos and no one actually cares. Now he shows Emphasis on the O-line. Show the Oline recruits to come LSU and get recognized. I love it

Mike Denbrock - "The offensive line drives us. If we don’t have that right, the rest of the pieces have trouble doing their job. That’s focus No. 1.”

I laughed when I saw it was given to Campbell because I think it’s ingenious. All the number does is put a target on someone’s back and increases the anxiety for a player. Putting it on an OL or DL or LB says this guy is important to his position group and nothing more. Now if we ever have another all world WR, RB, DB or QB then give it to them after they’ve proven they’ve earned that. Like next year IF Perkins has another huge season, you can give it to him if he wants it or another guy like Heard.

Are there no rules anymore about eligible and ineligible numbers? Honestly don’t know.

There are. He will wear a patch with #7, but still be #66

Because Fournette was a bust at LSU?

Yeah and Stingley having it is misleading. During his best season (as a freshman) he wore #24.

Patrick Peterson wore number 7 and won the Thorpe award and Patrick passed 7 to Tyranne Matheau and TM7 was a Heisman finalist as a sophomore

Stingley only played 3 games as #7. Stevens was the second #7 selected on that team because the first selection (Ja’Marr Chase) left the team before the season started.

(I’m not saying they sucked either, though.)

I think it was a really smart repurposing by Kelly.

I hate that you can just wear any number now, specific numbers by position was very useful in determining eligible receivers.

You can’t just wear any number now.

He will wear a #7 patch, just like Lloyd Cushenberry wore a #18 patch in 2019.

It is so stupid to use a patch with the number on it
I know can’t use that number for offensive linemen so don’t use it at all
Just puts a target on Will from other teams that he is special
Shouldn’t give the numbers to an offensive lineman

Who’s going to target him? The DE? Lol
He was a huge target last year as well, so was Emery Jones. You can’t get much more targeted than two true freshman tackles and they handled that pretty darn well. Target him all you want, he can obviously handle it. Mature beyond their years. I like the move!
