So when he said this:

quote:

quote: How the hell are you supposed to look off a defender when there are only 2 fricking wide receivers running routes? YOU CAN'T!!!

You responded with this:

quote:

SG_Geaux

quote:

Would you rather us go 5 wide and get the QB killed because the O-Line can't protect him ?

Sounds to me like you may have been absent the day they taught numbers 3 & 4 in school maybe?

Hmmm.

Some of the better QBs will pump fake on every pass play. What that does is give your O-line leverage because D-tackles and ends will jump or reach their hand up, which make it very easy to block them. It also freezes the secondary. ala Drew Brees

If BOTH receivers are running the same route, there's no point in a pump fake. It's not like you have to give a hitch any time to develop...maybe a second to let the linebacker clear out...but a pump fake won't accomplish that.

Answer me this....when's the last time you saw any of our receivers or tight ends run a drag route, a post route, a post corner, a dig route???

When teams are playing bump and run man coverage drag routes are going to be hard to run especially with the middle being clogged up with defenders.

Tight ends are staying in to block and when you don't have time to sit in the pocket those longer routes take time to run. Time that unfortunately we don't have.

But no, we're going to continue lining up in the pro set I, keep our TE in to block, and run double hitches, slants, outs and 9 routes with an occasional sluggo.

It seems like this is more of a neccessity with our inability to protect the QB.

D-ends are taught to read the QB tendencies. In regards to a pump fake..it will help the o-line.

Only on double move routes. Doesn't work well for slants and curls.

'looking' off a receiver is limited when you only send two out in pattern.

Yes it does.

For example...you can't pump on a slant. It's a quick 3 step route...but you can pump on a sluggo.

You can't pump on a hitch, but you can pump on a hitch and go.

See what he's saying?

Because the receiver is running straight and his man just covers him. Pump fakes are primarily to freeze or draw zone players (typically the safety or a nickel in zone) and "imply" the pass is going to a receiver in a different zone, typically in a shallower zone, to free a receiver from having to deal with 2 (or 3) defenders at the point of catch.

Football IRL bears only superficial resemblence to any video game.

I fully understand the concept of the hitch n go and the double move routes. However..I don't see us running that style of routes very often if at all. That's what I meant by, does not compute.

Well, when you have only one receiver, or at most two receivers that line up on the same side of the field, that are running routes. Who's he supposed to look off? Coach Miles isn't an elgible receiver, so I doubt the safety is going to run to cover him.

You guys do realize there was no safety to look off? A&M was playing man with no help over the top. That's why we kept going deep, we just couldn't connect.

Not sure the point of directing this towards me. I actually played QB unlike most on here that think looking off and staring down recievers is easy to do. Brees stares down recievers all the time.

That is if they have 2 receivers in the route. Several times this past Saturday the only receiver in the route was Landry.
