Last night was a mixed bag for him, with the bad outweighing the good. He made a couple of excellent plays in the field (along with a bad one), but sucked at the plate, showing that he should never be asked to bunt.

His defense in the post-season has been the best we've seen from him in his career, for the most part. I think he'll have a good night at the plate tonight. He's going to get some good pitches, because I think pitchers will look at him as a guy they do not want to walk. I'd like to see him hitting 8th, so teams will not want to see him on base when the top of the lineup comes around again.

Hope you have a telescope if you're looking for a good game from him at the plate.

0-5 two pop out bunts that looked horrific and an error. Nothing but up from there.

He was inches from a huge double that would have completely redeemed his last two ABs. I, too, have a feeling he plays well tonight.

He almost had a double down the line twice in that at bat. I was hoping like hell one of those would land fair. If for nothing else, just to get the taste of those nasty bunts out his mouth.

Besides the one error he played great in the field for what was asked of him.he’s never played 2nd and we’re asking him to swap back and forth for each batter

He was bad at the plate.

He made multiple huge plays in the field, with one uncostly error

Is there any way to remove his bat from the lineup? Is Guidry the backup SS?

He's made an error in two of the three games in the CWS thus far. Both could have been critical. The first was on what should have been the final out vs. Tenn in game 1. The runner that should have been out advanced to second and the next batter hit a rocket. Luckily it was right at Cooper for the final out. A few inches either way and Tenn. likely has the tying run coming to the plate in a game that should have been over.

Last night in a 2-0 game in the 7th he boots what should have been the third out to allow the bases to become loaded for one of Tennessee's better hitters. Luckily he grounded out, but that error could have completely wiped away all of the great work the pitching staff had done to that point.

If anything, he is the most inconsistent SS LSU has had in a while. He's capable of really, really good plays (both in the field and at the plate). But almost equally as likely to make some really bad plays (both in the field and at the plate). You just have to hope you can work around the bad plays and benefit from the good ones. But it is hard to argue he hasn't been LSU's worst player in the CWS.

Most of your post was accurate, but that ball back to Cooper to end the game was off the end of the bat and wouldn’t have hardly made it past second base had it not been right at Cooper. It really wasn’t hit hard.

He's going to get a heavy dose of sliders away because he can't recognize them and certainly can't hit them when he swings.

Yep, he seemed to really be struggling with his confidence after the first failed bunt attempt. I don’t know why they put it on again when it’s obvious that he’s a terrible bunter.

Yep. He also had one good at-bat that just did not end well. Two shots down the line that were nearly fair balls and likely doubles.

Those bunts looked awful though. I feel like he has laid down a bunt or two this season but can't recall for sure. He has the speed to leg out a bunt if the fielder is at all hesitant about where to go.

When he's playing well, he lays off those pitches. I think the coaches are going to emphasize plate discipline, and he'll be taking pitches instead of trying to do too much. When he realizes that his job is to get on base and not be a hero, he seems to do better.

Neither of the likely Wake Forest starting pitchers is overpowering, and both rely on enticing hitters to chase sliders/change ups out of the zone. I think LSU's hitters are going to take a disciplined approach tonight, since gorilla ball is not likely. We'll probably hit a lot of line drives and grounders. We need those balls to find the outfield grass.

IDK why people keep saying this. He has been in situations that absolutely call for bunts and the way he has been striking out it's a no brainer. It's pathetic that a weak cbb hitter can't execute a bunt.

He actually has hit a couple of bunts in the CWS that rolled down the line foul that could have been infield hits if they had stayed fair. He looked much better when bunting for a hit than when he squared up early in order to advance the runners and stay out of a DP.

As far as his fielding goes, yes, he's made 2 errors in the post season, but he has made a few sterling plays in the field that he would not have made in the past. His effective range seems to be better than it has ever been. He's not only reaching balls hit in the hole, but he's able to make a play at first on many of them.
