From personal experience the most bullying takes place in middle school. It's a tough time for everyone because there are so many cliques and what not. But ask your son what he wants to do. If he wants to wear an LSU shirt he has a right to. Again, bullys are tough to deal with. As a father whatever decision you make I'm sure is for the best. But do what HE wants not what you think. Just my 2 cents.

I agree that he should still wear his LSU stuff if he wants too. Hell if it were my son i'd have his wheelchair painted Crimson and white and have Alabama logos on it

This is one of the most disturbing things I have ever read on here. No matter who you are a fan of, there is no excuse for someone in a wheel chair being hit. How did the school deal with this? I am not a big man, and am not a violent person, but I would have completely lost my mind over this. If I had been put in your position I may very well have committed a murder, just not sure I could have restrained myself.

Sometimes you just have to let the record and facts speak for themselves. Once you do that, it is easy to ignore idiots and altercations like this.

The truth shall set you free or as Jim Rome likes to say, "Score Board" or in this case, trophy case.

Okay, here's what you should do as a father: You should tell your son that no mater the teasing he gets he should brush it off, or if it persists go to the teacher. If the teacher does not handle it to his satisfaction then he should go up the chain of command; which would end with a phone call to you or mom if no one does the right thing.

It sounds as if your child may have instituted the physical end of this altercation, and that isn't appropriate for anyone; wheelchair or not. HOWEVER, if anyone were to lay hands on your son first then he should strike back by any means necessary - wheelchair drive by, two by four, whatever. Those are the rules in my house anyway, and it's worked quite well.

Sounds like the bully pushed him back into his chair first...then he defended himself.

Sad situation, and it says more about this generation than it does football fans. As many others have stated, when I went to school the people that picked on the handicapped kids were taken care of...it all starts in the home.

My friend is paralyzed and is a die hard LSU fan and if any bama dude hit him me and the rest of my friends would put them in a wheelchair (literally).

He just came home from school with a long sad face. He thought he was going to be punished this weekend for running over the kid's foot. He told me the story again and it is the same one I got from the administrator. He's not physically injured in any way. The punch must have been minimal. Only, the kid apparently said some really mean things that weren't repeated to me on the phone. Of course it's all hearsay. According to my son, that kid told my son that at least he wasn't in a wheelchair and kids with muscular dystophy all die before they are 21.(This according to my son was relayed to the kids parents by administration) First of all I told my son that is absolutely not one bit true, which he knows and then I asked my son what was this kid's problem with him and he replied he doesn't know. I also asked him what the other kids were doing during this, he said just watching.

I told him that of course he's not punished, but I scolded him for using his chair and explained that he could really injure someone with that chair and to avoid that kid at all cost, because it seems like he has it in for my boy. I told him he should feel sorry for that kid because it's obvious that although he is not physically handicapped like you, there is something unseen that is really broken inside that kid.

Again, I know it is not because my son is an LSU fan, and he is a Bama fan, but something else is definitely wrong with that boy.

I was as shocked as most who replied about a kid striking another kid in a wheelchair. Never in a million years would I think that would happen.

That is so true...although your son is physically disabled, he is more whole than that kid. Give him a big hug from Tiger Nation tonight.

Hell no! I would put him in pruple and gold every day. If someone attacked or assaulted a child in a wheelchair there is something very wrong with them and in my opinion their dad needs his arse whipped.

If I had a son in a wheelchair and someone assaulted him for displaying his team colors I would sue the shite out of them. Absolutely unacceptable behavior and in Alabama parents are responsible for the actions of their kids I think.

If Saban found out about a Bama kid doing this to an LSU kid, he'd be furious!
I'm pretty sure this is true, and would be true not matter what the team affiliations were. Saban may be disingenuous in his professional dealing and a bastard to work for, but I've never seen anything to suggest he would stand for kids bullying another kid in a wheelchair. In fact, a letter like this just might inspire him to do some "community service" action like send a letter to the school or whatever.

Of course, it's probabaly more likely that he'd just toss it and a go back to his Little Debbies, but I think it's worth a shot. If he did take an interest, I'd bet it would make a huge difference.

Can you imagine the depths of this boys embarrasment if he were to be yanked out of the stands and get his arse whooped--

by a girl wearing a swimsuit!?!?!?
Hmm, an 11 year old boy getting manhandled by a 9th grade girl in a bathing suit? Probably be the most confusing thing he's ever experienced. I could easily see many years in therapy from that . . . which is probably already needed, from the sound of it.

Well, while I am fairly sure that my 7th grade daughter could just as easily take this little fricker down, she's just a lot more reserved, and certainly wouldn't enjoy it as much at her bad-arse sister!!

You know, I hate to sound like some touchy-feely "everybody's a victim" type, but I do have a twinge of pity for that kid. I don't know what kind of environment it takes to make a kid that broken (thank god!), but when you think about it that kid is headed for much, much worse than a beatdown. If he's this disturbed at age 11, I'd guess he's the one more in danger of not making it past 21.

And while I rationally know that beating his parents won't actually solve anything, I do sorely feel the visceral desire for whoever broke this little shite to suffer greatly.
