Living in Bama...

Raising my son as a Tiger fan in this state is not without tribulation.
I recieved a call from his school today (he's 11 and a 6th grader) informing me he was involved in a fight during PE. It was all started by this kid who is a Bamafan who ragged my son by repeatedly telling him how much LSU sucks. An argument ensued and apparently it turned violent.
Now I know boys will be boys and this stuff happens all of the time, but my son suffers from Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair.
I'm not infering that Bammers raise their kids to behave this way. This is one kid out of many. I try to tell my son to ignore the taunting, but anyone who has been in Jr. High knows this cannot always be done.
My wife has asked me to not encourage his passion for the tigers and has even forbidden him from wearing LSU gear to school, but the cat is somewhat out of the bag and the kids all know his colors are purple and gold.
Should I heed my wife's advice and tone it down, considering where we live? I don't think I can un-ring that bell even if I wanted to.
Anyhow, thanks for listening and

your son is in a wheelchair and a kid beat him up? you need to go over to that kids house and kick his dads arse until his son learns a lesson

Your son is in a wheelchair, and a kid not in a wheelchair started hitting him because he likes LSU?

Wow, tough situation.
Did the Bama kid hit him? I dont see how someone in a wheelchair could make the first move. I had multiple teachers in 6th grade but if he only has a couple. Go to the teachers and let them know that kids are getting violent about it. A little bit of hazing is, unfortunately, gonna happen no matter what. But there's no reason for it to get physical.

Keep the tiger garb going and we know who will have the last laugh.
Also, please make a visit to the kids house and beat his dad with a tire iron while yelling "tiger bait" while his kid watches so he can fully comprehend the situation.

Basically, I believe that he is an easy target and talking trash about LSU is an easy button to hit.

How much of man can a guy be for hitting a kid in a wheelchair? LSU fan or not, if I saw a kid hitting another kid in a wheelchair, that kid would be toast, regardless of if the situation was reversed

Shouldn't be when they've lost 5 of their last 6.

Yep,they teach them all about that " 'Bama class" at an early age.
That is just shameful. That Bama kid and his family should be ashamed of themselves. That's pathetic.

I totally can relate. Being an Auburn fan w/kids and living in Baton Rouge I am faced with a similar dilemma. My son is only 22 months old, so he is still pretty young. I have a daughter that is almost 5 y/o. She understands my passion for Auburn, but she also is aware that she lives near LSU, her friends like LSU, etc. She has a wide variety of Auburn clothing & LSU clothing (which was bought for her by friends..not me..haha)….I take her to athletic events quite often out at LSU…last year we went to watch a gymnastics match between LSU and AU…she said she wanted to wear LSU colors …so my wife and I had our Auburn stuff on and she had on her LSU stuff…(we did get some funny looks)…a few weeks ago I brought her to the LSU / AU women’s Basketball game…she said before hand she wanted to wear her Auburn football jersey…….and this Saturday night I am taking her to the men’s game and I will give her the choice of which team she wants to wear…
I guess my advice to you would be to let your son make his own choice….if he wants to be a LSU fan like his dad…fantastic…..but if he wants to “fit in” with his peers and be a Bama, Auburn , UAB, etc. fan..then support him with his choice…
My 2 cents worth

Trust me I'm plenty angry. I was contemplating putting an 8th grader on my payroll ala- My Bodyguard.

Tell him that LSU fans have nothing to prove. Two MNCs in this decade and Bama's last one was 92 means who gives a shite what they are saying. Sometimes you just have to blow it off.
The lesson is that most Bama fans are idiots.

What 5 year old buys their 5 year old friend clothing.

I feel your pain. He was raised a tiger from birth as we have only been here 3 years, his mold is set. I just dont want this to become an issue at school, but I am afraid that is beyond my control and it already has.

wow just when I thought bammer fans couldnt be any more trashy, I hear this story. bama fans are the absolute scum of the earth. trying to fight a kid in a wheelchair....wow.

Hopefully in a year or two, those kids will be mature enough to not physically harm a kid based on his sports affiliation
