I stuff I read on twitter last week about Walker not wanting to look at the radar gun during his rehab to see where he stood was worrisome to me. I’ll try and find the exact quote

Over...depending of course on how long he stays in the lead off spot.

Hunt Palmer said on the radio Walker was consistently hitting 87mph

Whether or not he is full of shite I dont know, but if thats true thats about right where he was pre-surgery

Any explanation from PM on the Hill/Walker decision?

According to Hunt, Walker’s velocity is back up to 87, but his command is not where it was. 87 without control might start for a SWAC team, but not LSU. Hopefully he gets back to where he was.

At some point, even trying to avoid looking at results is a distraction.

Seriously, he is WAY removed from the surgery. He should have been 100% entering fall ball. No reason for him to be delayed in his work load unless there was a huge setback. Or the reason itself is a lie.

He says he felt like himself almost immediately once he got back on the mound in the fall. In fact, Walker asked coaches to not relay his radar gun readings to him while working his way back.

“I didn’t want that number hanging over my head,” Walker says. “As long as I feel healthy and feel good throwing the ball, I’m not too worried about the numbers. So far I feel like myself.”

He continues: “I think the whole world gets too wrapped up in numbers. Maybe that’s too easy for me to say because I’m not a big velo(city) guy, but location wins in pitching, especially for me. I’m not worried about those numbers at all.”

This is the quote from the James Moran article. Maybe I’m reading into it too much. Sounds like a guy that might feel like himself but the radar gun isn’t reflecting that.

Zach Greinke has some interesting thoughts on this. LINK

If Marceaux and Hill can hang on to the weekend spots and we get Walker pitching the midweek...my god

Or if this happens I would rather him coming out the bullpen on sec weekends and an emergency starter if needed in the sec/regional/Omaha.

If you have 3 starters locked down. The focus should be on solidifying bullpen not a 4th starter.

Little bit of difference between what Walker is saying (and going against college bats) and Greinke laying in 85mph fastballs against professional bats.
