This year was just the removal of the curtain.
Almost everyone on this board predicted LSU to be 9-3 this year. Now that we have actually gone 9-3 everyone is ready to hang Miles. That is downright funny to me.
We had a shot at beating the top 2 teams in the country this year. The Ole Miss game was the only really bad loss.

Are you seriously comparing Miles to Hallman?
They have some very similar traits. Of course, they took over at LSU under completely different circumstances, so we'll never know just how similar they were. But lacking in basics like knowing the rules or doing simple addition is one characteristic they share. The utter inability to speak coherently and communicate even the simplest concepts is another.
If I had to compare Miles to a previous LSU coach, I'd probably put him somewhere between Mike Archer and Charles McClendon (admittedly a very wide range). Like them, he was handed control of the program when it was in terrific shape and was a turn-key powerhouse. He's taking longer to dismantle it than Archer did, but won't maintain it at even a reasonable level for as long as McClendon did.

Given that Louisiana is supposed to have a stellar pool of recruits next year it would probably be a good idea to leave Les alone until after National Signing Day 2011. Firing him next season will not help recruiting.

this...bigtime. the man has earned that chance.
Yes, he earned that chance, and he got it. In 2009. He blew it.

what many people just refuse to acknowledge is the disastorous effect the dismissal of RP has had on our program.
That kid is going to be perhaps the biggest scapegoat in the history of this state. Did he also cause Katrina, 9/11 and global warming?
What a strong program Miles built that could be destroyed for two years (and counting) by the loss of one player. I'm sure he would have been a big help on the defensive line these past two years if he had stayed, and not having him around to call time out in the Ole Miss game was a real killer.

Les is on the clock
What clock? Hell, he's in a job where they pay him one of the top 5 or 10 salaries in the profession, and all he has to do is win half his SEC games to keep it. If he's still got a job today, it's pretty clear there's not much that could get him fired.

True. Look how firing Shula and hiring Saban killed Alabama's recruiting. A cautionary tale for us all, to be sure.

comparing those two games is a failure right off the bat.
Actually, they're very similar. In both games, we faced an opponent with inferior talent who thoroughly outplayed us for most of the game, then we got a miraculous chance to steal the win anyway, only to blow it with mind-numbingly stupid play calling and clock mismanagement.

None of this is new. The guy called a timeout after an int in 05 for pete's sake.....he is a goof ball and has been for 5 years now

All odf the coaches have no idea what they are getting in to when they come here. They are all over there head taking a job over here. The fans are the CEO of the LSU franchise, and we want perfection. Some handle, it some dont.

I was waiting for you to appear. Even if you didn't I was going to recommend that you be the person to give the written response to the editor. It will at least be well reasoned and with sincerity...despite the fact that you'll be wrong.

I agree but I seriously doubt some of these Miles haters are fans. Maybe bandwagon and definately miserable human beings.

Hears the deal...Im not going to blame RP or try to predict the future and state it as fact which seems to be really popular on here.
With that said...LSU has had rookie, inexperienced QBs the last two years. I cant understand how some cant see how that has affected the outcome of some games. Miles knows how to coach and knows more about football than anyone on this board. You dont compile the record that he has without knowing how to coach. Ill be the first to admit he's made some mistakes but so does everyone....Mack Brown in the Big 12 CG, Saban in the NCG. LSU is not in complete disarray as some would have you believe. I think that LSU will be fine. LSU dropped of after the NC which isnt that uncommon and improved (record wise) last season.
So whats the point in continually bashing the guy? He's not going anywhere. I thought Crowton should've been fired and not even allowed on the plane after the bowl game but he's still here....so guess what, i got over it and now support him and hope he can turn it around. Being negative is too draining an honestly a waste of time.

Oh yea.....I have 5 season tickets and go to just about all of the road games......I'm not a fan.
I don't personally hate Miles, I just don't think he is up to the challenge of handling a big time football program. How many times was Miles mentioned this year as a candidate for a vacant head coaching position?

So, what's the "Regular Season" breaking point and just cause for termination next year?
6-6,7-5,8-4. What about another duplicate 9-3 and second behind Bama in the West with either a Bowl win or loss?
Why keep criticizing? You're still seeing crticism because the two coaches (OC/OL) mainly seen as responsible for the offensive "112" debacle are still on the staff. (No doubt in my mind that if McCarthy hadn't been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, that clown would still be here as well)
HOPEFULLY, Billy Gonzales is a miracle worker and WILL BE ALLOWED to stop the insanity on offense. If Les LETS HIM overhaul what needs overhauling, (play calling/on-field personel participation/QB + WR mental concentration and technique) and with a bigger, stronger, more experienced offensive line, there is a chance for substantial offensive improvement in 2010............

No, I was just making the point that we shouldn't be forced to sit idly by and accept mediocrity, and if the fans would have continued to show up for Hallman, instead of having immense amount of no-shows I don't think the administration would have made a change as quickly as they did......same for dinardo.....who had a lot of the same characteristics Miles is showing......stubborness, lashing out at the fans, an off in space look on the sidelines.

About as many times as Mack Brown, Tressel, Saban. You cant judge a coach on that criteria

I think you've hit on something. Bama and Florida both did well with the moves to Saban and Meyer. Miami, Nebraska, Bama up through Shula, ND, and so far Auburn and Arky not so much.
If Miles does go after next year it is imperitive that it's done quickly after the season and that a really top notch replacement is found to keep the recruits and maybe even improve the class (judging by USC and Tenn this year there seem to be a lot of coaches turning down jobs).
Maybe you guys can put some of that energy into raising the big TAF bucks to get a top notch guy quick. Something that would make what Bama threw at Saban look like chump change.
*I was gonna add some of you guys can start contacting coaches - do some ground work. But then I thought some ranters might actually take that seriously and pick up the phone.
