Why anyone would ever think things would change with Cam and Les on offense, I will never understand.

Can't wait to see what this team looks like. So tired of the old sit in the 10-14 lead and so nothing then last play of the game the other team is going for the winning score.

The reason a lot of these Mormon schools with almost all White players do well is that they are family men. They go on missions after high school and then play four or five years of ball. That is why you often see a white basketball school make it far in the NCAA tourney, their players stay for four or five years. I think LSU will strugle against BYU under Canada;s new system but our defense, though reloaded, will pull it out for us.

The BYU defense couldn't handle State's offense last season so I assume that LSU will give them fits, too.

I don't see how the first part leads to the second part. From a scheme standpoint (discounting the talent disparity) Mullen's offense is very different to, and much better than, ours has been the last few years. Maybe that will change with Canada, but until we see that it does, struggling with Mullen's offense doesn't say anything about how a team will do against ours.

In the first game of the season with a brand new offense and new faces all over the field on both sides of the ball, facing a team that has already played a game, not committing many turnovers or penalties is asking a hell of a lot.

Yep, and a loss is very realistic.

That's our best chance to win. The defense had better be ready, because they are likely going to have to win this game for us.

Virginia Tech did this before the game in Blacksburg a few years ago. We were supposed to be their first game as well, but they snuck one in ahead of us.

I predict BYU will tune us up and we lose by 9 points.

Early ranking has LSU #12 vs Unranked BYU in Houston. Not much to discuss unless the offense of old continues to haunt Canada.

Pre-season polls (really any polls) mean zero. BYU won't be a pushover.

Va Tech in 02, and Oregon St in 04. I'm pretty sure they each had easy wins before playing the Tigers

Yes, this could be tougher than we expect. I think the Tigers will want to get the season started the right way and win.

Hope LSU does not take BYU for granted. While this Cougar team is nothing like some of their strong teams of the Jim McMahon/Robbie Bosco days, they will put up a good fight.

BYU tends to be a pain in the arse for teams more talented than them. We shouldn't freak out if it's close at halftime, but we should pull away after that.

Don't want them to hang around late though. Just ask Nebraska.

The only two times I remember this happening is ASU in 05 and Miss St. in 2015, unless I'm forgetting one.

The only time I remember this happening when LSU opened one the road or a neutral site was 2002, when VT last minute scheduled Arky St (?) before LSU made the trip.

BYU will give 110% effort, but still lose to our depth and speed.

If we lose the opener to BYU.... riots.

m so sick of having to run the ball well to win

Teams that can't run the ball don't win championships.

You have to run and be able to stop the run. LSUs biggest problem near the end of Les was, we couldn't stop teams that ran power. We were weak up front. That's why Bama and arky gives us fits, LSU loses to UF and Auburn when they can run the ball.

This is one thing I really liked after Coach O took over last year. The team looked ready to play in the games that we should win, and in most we kept applying the pressure till the end.
With a new offense and new players on defense it could be interesting the first game no matter who we play. Do we win, I think so but might not be as pretty as we would want with a quality team in BYU.
