Am I crazy for being optimistic this year? I clearly see the brutal schedule we have and all the “expert” predictions. Am I crazy to think that we can have a decent year? I just don’t see us being as bad as everyone is saying. We will have a great Defense led by an even better front 7. This defense will keep us in every game. I understand the concern on offense, but we aren’t use to have a good offense anyways. What makes people think that this year will be worse than any other year? Losing good running backs? I guess that certainly doesn’t help but if you have good O line play, running the ball will be successful regardless of who is carrying it. I think there’s more to be optimistic about when it comes to Burrow and the receiving core we have. The schedule is brutal and there is a chance we drop some close games, but thats football. I still believe we will be in every game and surprise people this year. I don’t knock anyone’s opinions, because that’s what they are. This is just mine.

Jesus Christ. I feel like I’m losing my mind but is everyone cool with pissing away 10 mil to get rid of a guy for this reason and then pissing away another 1.5 when firing the next guys hand picked OC?

You can have optimism but here are the reasons most people are concerned:

HC- We have Ole Miss’s worst coach ever
OC- We have no idea how he’ll do
QB- Have no idea what we have
RB- Takes a significant step back
WR: See QB
RT: Hopefully Deculus is ready
CB: We are Paper thin. We lose Greedy and we’re fuched.

We literally just fired Les for barely losing to Wisconsin, who won their division in the big 10 and 10 games, and Auburn who played in the Sugar Bowl.

Should have just kept Les if we were going to lower our expectations.

I can see that. All those things could turn out to be terrible for us and we go 6-6 like everyone expects. What if that’s not the case and those positions you’ve named are better and end up have a decent offense. I said we aren’t use to having a good offense because we aren’t. I’m not saying by any means I’m cool with it. For the sake of the argument, I’m saying the past years the worst that we have done was 8-4 with terrible offense. With a defense that should be better, why we would we fall that much just because of offense?

IMO the only chance this team has to sniff 10 wins or better is if Aranda puts together a truly elite defense, like the ones we've seen at Bama under Saban or some of the defenses Urban had at UF. I don't expect much from the offense even with Burrow.

And I'm tired of reading articles that imply it's ok for this team to go 7-5 this year because the schedule is so tough. If Bama had our schedule would it be ok for Saban to go 7-5? No, and no one should expect anything less from LSU's HC. If O is really the man for the job we should expect him to win despite the tough schedule.

I agree with this and I’m not lowering expectations. I’m just basing this from what “experts” and a lot of our fan base believe will happen. No way I think a 8-4 team is “acceptable” in our standards. My point is, I think this team we be 8-4 minimum. I think we can be a better team than that.

I agree with everything you said, but just curious. What are we missing on this offense for us to have no shot at being a good offense. If E ends up being a bust as OC then sure, but just as a unit and talent alone, what are we missing? I’m basing this of course on Burrow actually living up to his name.

Burrow has never started a college game or taken a meaningful snap.

Besides Greedy we have 4 scholarship corners. 1 has been a WR his entire life and the other is a grad transfer that couldn’t start at Stanford.

Well, this isn't entirely true. We got to see some semblance of an Ensminger-run offense during O's first year. At worst, it would probably be a more efficient Les Miles offense.

That's not going to beat the Alabamas of the world, but it shouldn't be a complete train wreck, either.

I think Burrow will be a good QB, but not elite. We are lacking a game changer at RB like we've had recently. The WR corps is talented but unproven. My biggest concern based on what I saw in the spring game is the OL. They should be better when Charles returns but we do not have a center and unless Deculus steps up his game we are going to be weak at one of the ends. Traore was a revolving door in the spring game. Unlike some I think Ensminger is competent to run the offense but he doesn't have a great deal to work with this year.

I think the mood has changed considerably since we brought in Burrow. Sure there are still those missrable fricks hoping for us to lose so they can say they were right about O, but most of the pessimism stemmed uncertainty at the QB position. If we get good production there, a 10 win season is not out od the question.

That a fair assessment. I’m hoping that our Oline can get them right and I think he can. I’m hoping that was more of Chiasson being a beast rather than our tackle being a “swinging door”. I doubt that is the case, though. I like that we have more depth on the O line this year. That will push guys to get better with guys fights for PT.
